I'm in the same boat as you.

Never built one but I am dieing to try to get my hands on one.

In large scale the trumpeter looks nice

1/48 I think Accurate miniatures had a sweet one but is now oop :( But there still some on ebay and such for $35.

Hello mate, I can tell you the Revell Dauntless in 1/48 is terrible on the inside, figures are junk and really no detail what so ever. I will say the outside of the plane is pretty good at the price point. If you like you can checkout the one I completed in the air gallery.

If can pick one up on ebay, the Hasegawa one is very nice. I built one a while back and if you want to, there's quite a lot of aftermarket available for it.

I've got the Accurate Miniatures SBD2 Dauntless and the detail is outstanding for a 1/48 kit out of the box. Really all you would need is some seat belts to finish it off. I recommend it. However, if you check out my build in the 100 Years of Bombers GB, you will see I ran into a problem. The cause of the problem was probably due to shipping or whatever, I doubt you would have the same issue if you got a boxing like mine. Currently two manufacturers are reboxing the AM kit, Academy (an SBD-2) and Italeri (an SBD-5). From what I can see the Italeri boxing includes decals for 2 US planes, 1 New Zealand version, and 2 French versions. While Academy offers markings for Midway.

I have the Trumpeter 1/32 Dauntless and made a start on it, was blown away about how good it was, not the most exotic of real life aircraft but wow, what a kit!

I used to have a Hasegawa (I think it was?) 1/48 Dauntless when I was into that scale and then the Accurate Miniatures one came out with holes in the dive brakes and wished I'd bought that one ... the other manufacturers had you drill them out as I recall.

So if you are definitely only wanting 1/48 example you are looking in the right direction but I would really give the Trumpy 1/32 Dauntless some serious consideration if scale is not important to you, in 1/32 it doesn't build up too big for display and really is one of Trumpeters better kits IMHO and won many model sites kit of the year awards when it came out, check out some of the review links posted there, amazing kit.

Thanks coilin I have only just got back into modelling and only just started doing planes so still leaning how to weather and shade, so I am sticking to 1/48 when I get better I will try the larger kits I have the tamiya 1/32 corsair to build but I won't to do it justice the 1/32 dauntless will go well with that.
Once agin thanks for the reply.
