Kristal Klear problem

Hey y'all!

I've been trying to use Microscale Kristal Klear to glue canopies on the model. Firs I tried it on my helicopter as it was such a bad fit on the canopy that it needed to be used as filler. It proved to have extremely flawed bonding capabilities. This might have been because I wasnt able to put any pressure on the clear parts.

However, on my second try im using it as glue on a jet canopy with good fit. The problem is that I find it to have a weak bond. This even when the fit is good, I put pressure on it and leave it to dry over night. When I touched the canopy it fell off. Is the bond not getting any stronger than that or am I the only one with this problem?

I've heard about thinning the MKK. How do you do that and will the bond be stronger?

cheers

Never had a problem, its just a pva based glue so it isn't going the be as strong a glue as CA, but I've never had anything fall off

I use Revell Contacta Clear and have had similar problems. I have found it helps to apply the Contacta on the contact surfaces, leave to cure for 12-24 hours and then re-apply and tape in place for a further 12-24 hours. I haven't had a problem with glass work falling off after doing this.

Hope this helps.

Ive only started using it myself and found the trick - apart from a very good contact patch - is to apply some pressure for a few minutes after setting the glasswork in place, not too much...

Also dont be afraid to use more of it than you think necessary, it cleans up easily with a slightly damp cotton bud.

I was planning to use this on my p-38, but what you're describing is the exact problem i had with testors clear parts cement (also pva). I'll still try it, but it seems like i may have to learn to protect the canopy and use CA.

Can't say I've had a problem with it. Not just on canopies either, I use it for attaching various detail parts.
