Euphoric Frustration

So I'm back into modeling after a long hiatus and I'm having the most rewarding and frustrating go of it...just like I remember!

I'm working on the Viper 1/48 and was surprised how quickly things started coming back. I did a pretty good job on the cockpit, had an easy time gluing up the fuselage, and a blast priming and pre-shading it. Happy! I had a few noticeable filler fails and a little detail loss but happy for a first go.

Then I realized I forgot and used Tamiya thin to glue the canopy down (frosting from hell) and also forgot to sand and fill a noticeable seam. Oh well...write it down for experience.

After painting, I realized I did a few things in the wrong order, which will now require some major masking and touch up. More experience.

But with all the mistakes and learning fails, I'm really having a great time! The Viper will go down as a practice kit and also as the excuse to buy a store worth of little paint bottles and assorted chemicals. I would post some pictures but I think I will wait till the next kit when I can post them as I go.

I'm learning a lot and I'm really thankful I stumbled on this forum and the YT vids. They have really inspired me to give this a go. Scale modeling has so many ups and downs...euphoria followed by absolute frustration. It's like golf. Or a marriage.

It is a learning curve that continues, because from build to build, you want to continuously improve upon your last build, because of the small mistakes you make along the way. It's that dedication to want to continuously improve that drives us to watch videos and study information about the subject in hand, and that becomes the addiction to wanting more. Well, for me anyway!

I started this year and have just completed my 7th build- a Tamiya De Havilland Mosquito FB Mk.VI for which I posted my Final Reveal video on Youtube this morning....there's a noticeable difference between my first and last builds, because I've watched and studied many videos and photographs since the first build and learned a lot of new techniques. It's also extremely rewarding when you look at the conclusion of your efforts, and that reward can be admired for a long time!
