Ok gents,

I've had a response from Mektronics Australia regarding costs for the A300SD (same spray booth that Paul and co did a group buy for), and OMG

The A300SD is $1540 + freight.

I also made enquiries about a fume cupboard - the T660HC. $3,270 + freight.

Their response included the "cost is so high due to being shipped from overseas, bulky ... " et al.

Yep, I tried to find it for sale in the US with no luck. The cost of shipping it puts it out of touch for me too . Looking at the Artograph 1520/1530 now. Not sure if they are available where you are.

Yeh that's the one I bought. Not really worth it, too small doesn't pull enough air. If the bench vent is going to cost 3 times the UK price I might see what it actually costs to get one from the UK.

Boy I was wrong the Bechvent works at $425.24 not including tax. So the Mektronics mob are charging 4 times the price. What a rip off. Time to look at something else.

It might do the trick if I fit a bigger fan. I also contacted an air brush supplier in South OZ. He reckoned the $1500 would probably be about right. He also said his supplier only brigs them in as a special order as the size a weight of a good one will increase the cost to what you were quoted. Looks like we miss out on anything decent.

Okay got another spray booth today. It's a bit bigger than the Delta one, which is crap really, fan wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding. And it's too small. So I got this other one from Hobby Tools Australia, http://www.hobbytools.com.au/ As I said it's a bit bigger and the fan is a lot more powerful and it has some decent filters. But it's made of some foldable plastic so it's fairly light, fan is really heavy though and of solid construction. So the plan is this, if it breaks I'll just use the shape as a pattern and get it made out of wood, which I can do, or some lightweight sheet steel or alloy.
It also came with spare filters and lazy susan which is a nice touch.

Never heard of them till last week. Only took two days to get here from Victoria.

Well that's it. Time to use it I think though it's a bit grey and cool here, temperature's down to 22C so I've had to put jeans on. It is winter after all

Yup, have been considering the Sparmax - let me know how you go with it.

Becsta, it works okay. Could be a little more solid but it's okay. Fan works reasonably well, certainly better than the Delta one, but it could be a little more powerful. I don't think your/we are going to find a better one unless we go the 2Gees way and get the bench vent.

Well, I've too been considering the BenchVent A300S-D (which some also call Graphic Air) extractor myself but, as stated, the shipping price will be the defining factor for me. I'm checking around but it doesn't look good. Like Orbyn, I may have to go for the Artograph 1530 and call it a day. Too bad these BenchVent booths aren't sold here. They look like they move a lot of air.

Well looks like I'm going to get the Bench Vent A300SD after all. Seems the company I work for have a global procurement system so with one phone call it's on it's way and should be here in 5 days. Unfortunately I won't be but I'll get it when I get back. Now I have to build another bench.

Just in case anyone is interested (particularly in the U.S.), I have just purchased the BenchVent A300S-D (or BV300S-D as listed) directly from BenchVent in the UK. The total price came to a little more than $500 delivered. I was going to order extra filters but that would have pushed the price near the $600 range, which, in turn, would have pushed the wife to sign the divorce papers

It should be here within the next couple of weeks. I'll post some pics here when I get it.

My old cheapo spray booth died, and I was about settle on one of the plastic-y $200 spray booths available here in Aus (sparmax/tamiya/delta) when I stumbled across Ozzie21's reviews of them. Initially I was reluctant to spend over $500 for a spray booth, but given the lack of products in Aus, I contacted Mektronics about the A300SD. They quoted $1750 + GST delivered

So I ended up emailing GraphicAir directly (I had given up at this point, assuming GraphicAir would refer me to Mektronics). They said they were happy to ship to Australia! I paid AUD$560 in total and the booth took about 2 weeks to build and 2 weeks to arrive. Very happy with the product, its well built and works great.

TL;DR: Purchased A300SD from GraphicAir direct for AUD$560.

you lucky blighter, and a very good price. I looked into buying one in sept and it was going to cost...Graphicsdirect.co.uk 672 aud.........184 of that was postage. My el cheapo hasn't died yet, but I removed one of the filters and improved it's performance no end. I vent directly to the outside world so filters aren't really necessary. I live with no close neighbors.
