Has anyone tried this that can tell me if it's a good combination? I will most likely be ordering Ultimate thinner in the near future but in the meantime I have a whole can of Tamiya thinner. Anyone have any advice? Thanks ahead of time!

No, Vallejo is water-based, whereas Tamiya is alcohol-based.

If you need to thin VMA, try with plain water, but it'll (maybe) separate - some do, some don't. Vallejo do have their own thinners.

Good point..forgot about that. I know Vallejo MA works pretty well without thinning. I've only used it a couple times but I really like the results. I'll try some water.

Thanks!

Hey, Jeff.....I thin my Tamiya paints with 91% Isopropyl Alcohol that you can buy from any pharmacy for about $6 - $7 a liter. Tamiya paints are terrible to hand brush because they tend to dry quickly and then drag, but when mixed at about 50/50, or even, 40/60....paint/alcohol, they go on really smooth.

Cheers,

Martin

No not with x20a but it works perfectly with Ultimate thinner as do all paints, don't use water, use a proper thinner.

Oh and Vallejo thinner sucks ass

LOL! I've heard that. I did a couple test samples last night...one thinned with Tamiya and one straight from the bottle. The Tamiya-thinned one is pretty brittle and is flaking around corners where the SOOB one is perfect.

Another reason to order me up some Ultimate!

Yeah that one reaction to other is it just turns to useless gloop, which is a nightmare if it in your airbrush :eeek:

I know its my own product I'm recomending but ill stand behind all of them as i know they all work perfectly, you cannot beat Ultimate thinner :thumb2:

Sorry but I've thinned VMA with Tamiya thinner X20A and, in fact, it was the BEST thinner I've found for Model Air. Nothing really worked for me until I tried X20A. I don't get nearly as much as tip drying or clogging now that I've started using this combo.

My opinion, of course.

Have you tried our thinner with it though?

Tamiya works fantastic with Tamiya acryls but after my test, I'm open to trying Ultimate thinner...if anything as a comparison. I've done two tests now and something just isn't right with the combo. It might just be me...I'm certainly not a veteran airbrusher!

Almost to 50 posts and I'll order meeself up some and have a good old fashioned run-off!

I'm a newbie aswell but happy times when I found my recipe for joy and happiness with the airbrush.

50% paint tamiya
45% X20
5% retarder tamiya
Cleaning ultimate airbrush cleaner.

= happy

Btw wanna brush with tamiya just add a bit of retarder n x20 and it works great!
