Paul - like yourself, I will build the Tamiya 1:32 P-51D. I just ordered it through sealmodel.com and it will be coming from Hong Kong. I will be interested in how long it takes and in what condition it arrives. They have pretty competitive pricing at $88.00 USD plus shipping so I thought I'd give it a try.

Any idea if we can build it right out of the box to meet the GB criteria?

You will need some aftermarket decals to conform to d day, if you get a set with invasion stripes you should be fine, but research the aircraft to ensure that it was involved with d day

I did not make the deadline for the GB - obviously. I had hoped to finish the kit by 31 Dec 14, but I ran into an issue that forced me to box it up for awhile.

In short - after applying the clear coat over the marking and paint, in preparation for weathering and washes, the clear craze cracked on 100% of the wings upper surfaces and most of the forward fuselage. A couple attempts were made to remove by sanding, buffing, and even paint thinner/remover. Unfortunately, all the upper surfaces look like they will need to be stripped of paint back to bare styrene, and I have not the will to do that at the moment.

So - expensive box of doom for now.

Gutted for you jon, hope you get back to it one day.
