Maybe he finished his Javelin and it broke?

Just wondering if the resolve will hold firm once the 1:24 typhoon is out ;)

Well, it was mostly the instructions (it was the SdKfz. 251/10 with armor); there were a couple of parts that weren't mentioned in one step and then shown in the next and it was like, "Huh? Where'd that come from?" and I just hate DS tracks with a blood-red passion.

Dragon's kits are fine; it's their instructions that suck.

What gets me with Airfix is that they sell some crap kits with load of build issues yet they advertise themselves as a manufacturer for a beginner. :pistols:
It annoys me how they sell some of the least beginner friendly kits at a beginner friendly price and Tamiya sell some of the most beginner friendly kits at a non-beginner friendly price.

It would be good if all the different modelling forums got together and petitioned Airfix to get rid of the old sh;te they are selling. I can't believe it's even legal to sell this sub standard crap! Is there a lawyer in the house? Lol!

More problems with the Javelin?! I must say, the only new tool I've done is the lightning, and it was mint. Can't comment on the rest of the new stuff. But I still say they should be strung up by the £&@£s for selling the old stuff in new boxes! :pistols:

New sprues inside , a lot of flash ( no , also common ...)
Buy the 1/24 Typhoon and discover that less 10 £ in emodels site in prelaunch ( Could be ...)

The decals or the instructions on the Javelin are incomplete or miss ...and now asked for them they will charge the delivery ...(Maybe...)

ah I give up ....:

waiting for the ISM show , and yes Lee , this looks like a suspense film here ! :)

I'm guessing that he's completed all the painting and decaling on the Javelin and has come to fit the wheels, drop tanks and missiles and at least one of these doesn't fit. If that was me I would be pretty enraged as well.

Just seen the news show as to the cause of all the grief :( aren't the decals by Cartograf rather than Airfix's own? Perhaps it was a duff sheet made by Cartograf and all Airfix do is go here's the design go make it and when it's done just stuff it in the box?

I did the javelin in the other scheme, and didn't have an issue with the positions of the tail band or the tail stripe, so perhaps its an error with that scheme? Settling was ok too on my set, although I did run into messiness with the roundels on the upper wing too .. Grrr

So just like the hole being missing in the top decal would be Airfix's fault, could the general lack of settling etc be down to Cartograf?

Whenever there is a third party involved it's always hard to nail down who is at fault, could it be purely Airfix's because they should have checked every sheet, maybe Cartograf converted airfix's designs wrong, or is it Cartograf for producing that particular sheet, or did Airfix like we do assumed cartograf's awesome reputation and just let them get on with it.. We'll never know

Controversial view I know, but hey it's a Thursday and nearly the weekend :)

Ps I'm no airfix fanboy. They and others do make and repackage some really nasty kits, but I dunno seems like Cartograf should get some flack too

Dunno. When all said and done though it's horrible to work so hard on something and be let down by something that is totally out of your control :(

Regardless if the decals are third party Airfax is ultimately responsible for what they put in their kit. They should have had quality control and test the decal. if the decals turned out to be crap Airfax should have called the third party and had the issues fix. The buck stops with Airfax.

(playing devil's advocate here.. ;) )

That's how it *should* work. Question is:
1. Are Airfix/Cartograf in the process of having some of the design issues fixed?
2. Can Airfix/Cartograf afford to have them fixed? (e.g will it cause more damage to the business to fix them than not to)
3. Were the not setting issues a one off or is it every set?
4. Who is responsible for the mess up and so who would pay for the rework(was it an Airfix design fault or a cartograf mistake in producing the designs)
5. How have other companies dealt with poor setting, poorly designed decals? Is it just Airfix or do other companies have the same issue at some point in time?

Yes it's desperately annoying and I can totally understand the frustration (I would be spitting bullets also) but in my experience all companies have issues like this, it's how they deal with them that's the issue.

My personal view is that all companies wont go back and fix design issues unless the answer to question 2 is yes.

Just watched the show and I felt for you Lee. It doesn't matter if the issue is with Airfix or Cartograf. It also doesn't matter if others have had similar problems with this kit or not. The point is, if you've put your heart and soul into a build, having to deal with these kinds of problems so close to the finish line is gutting. I hope you find a solution for the decal problem. Maybe just spend that weekend in Mallorca first and then try and tackle the problem with a fresh eye and mind.

P.S.; Loved the news section though. If you call that soft cheese, I wonder what next months full fat cheese will be like. I just hope that when it comes to it, you have more luck building that Roden Vomit-7 thing than you had trying to pronounce its name... I'm still laughing at that one. Thanks for making my day. :thumb1:

I should like Airfix as I'm British but I've always found them awkward and stubborn in many ways ... I'm not trying to bias anyones opinion in any way at all but I've thought this for a long time and fair play to anyone that loves what Airfix do ... I'm not gonna knock you for it.

They come out with some interesting subjects in all their unusual scales though.

When Airfix first started 1/24 scale aircraft it was a big thing when I was a wee boy back in those times ... early 70's or very late 60's at least and to be honest their first 1/24 kits were no more than toys with retractable undercarriage gimmics and stuff most of us would not entertain anymore.

Airfix did get better though for big scale Aircraft kits, but ever so slowly ... I think it was their 1/24 Hurricane (early 80's ?) before I finally admitted respect for them, that was a nice kit and in many ways ground breaking for its time. The only example of their 1/24 series I've not built is the Mosquito ... soon to be Typhoon too.
What used to grate me when asking the question on various large scale aircraft model forums is why Airfix cant switch to the more popular 1/32 scale too and the stock answer from the Airfix enthusiast fan boy club is ... its not a scale they do ... but it *is* a scale they do, just not in Aircraft.

Airfix even got awkward in doing armour in 1/32 when the industry switched to 1/35 I think it is.

Lol.

I'm sure there is a certain degree of stubbornness with Airfix/Hornby, I still cant quantify it yet though.
