I noticed on many postings from the various masters that they mention a "Pin Wash" but when I look at the pictures I just can't see what it is they have done
Could someone explain what a pin wash is and why you do it and do you apply it to a particular base colour.

I watched that video a few months ago when I was just starting out and it made me think....wow...it's that easy to achieve these effects?! Once you know the secrets to techniques of modeling, it's then down to your own skill at applying them. But the tricks and methods are not that difficult to learn....just plenty of practice to improve them.

Thanks for pointing me in that direction. It does seem to be simple process that does indeed bring a certain effect , light weathering, to a model. Now to find some artist supplies.

As long as it's a gloss finish eg clear coated, then very thinned enamels do the same thing (I presume acrylics will as well)

It is an oil based wash that is placed selectively in the area to be highlighted. The wash then runs down (for example) the panel line via capillary action due to it's thin nature. The best ones around is the Tamiya washes
