Hi all, suggestions needed for a 1/72 ww2 aircraft to build. Been refurbishing die cast vehicles for a while and fancy having a go at a plastic British WW2 aircraft along the lines of a Wesland Lysander, no bi-planes please, also not keen on anything along the lines of a Spitfire, want something different. The last plastic aircraft I built must have been 10 years ago and have been inspired by looking at Paul's 'Aircraft Modelling Techniques' videos on you tube, want to see if I can improve my overall build quality by following Paul's videos.
Have been looking at some myself and there doesn't seem that many to choose from. I would also like comments on kit quality and any build tips etc. to go along with the suggestion.
Depending upon what feedback I get I will let you know which I choose and attempt to give an update of the build.

Well, reading your post I was full of ideas but as soon as you clarified "not planes from the lines of spitfire" I panicked You can always build a Mosquito or a Tomahawk... I would choose a Hawker Typhoon or Tempest because beside their interesting look, they usually come with very nice rocker payload

Wildcat
Corsair
Tamiya do a nice Zero in 1:72
Or some like a defiant nice subject not done that often
A Me 262
The comet rocket fighter
The list could go on and on

What do you want British, German, US, Japanese, Chinese or Russian, French and Polish just to name a few where do you want to depicted it Battle of Britain, Eastern front, pacific, North Africa or the last days of the war.

You could pick the aircraft then decide or pick the theatre then pick what you want to build because for example North Africa camo and aircraft would be very different to pacific theatre.

Once you know we would be able to maybe point you to a subject a bit different.

Well, decided on a 1/72 Tamia de Havilland Mosquito NF Mk.X111/XV11 . The Mosquito just because I liked the look but don't know why Tamia, just fancied a change from the Airfix that were the last ones I built many years ago. Will post some photos when I suss out how but the detail, to my eye anyway, is very good, is this typical of Tamia?
Well must get on but hopefully someone will be interested in future posts.

Great choice mate with tamiya most of the time they are great builds.

Thanks, I want to do it justice so will be coming back frequently for best advice. Inspired by Paul's build videos of 'Aircraft Modelling Techniques' making it look so easy. Will need advice mainly what to paint and when to paint it. Want to the cockpit justice, we'll see. Also hope to get the photo size better in time.
Just been looking at your you tube video Foiling a fighter, you used a lot of PE? what is this, it looks like extra parts.

Nice choice mate, from my experience Tamiya are usually good kits, quite detailed and go together very well. The photos have come out well and to my mind don't need to be re-sized.

Looks like you're off to a good start! If you're looking for something 'different' you usually have to look to the less known/specialist manufacturers. Although these kits usually require a lot more work to get results.

You can also look for conversion kits, that basically provide the additional parts to make a different version of a more common aircraft.

Whatever you want to build, there's usually someone who makes it. Just depends if it's the right scale/price for you.

PE is photo etch mate it's extra parts made of brass mostly give some kits a bit more realism for smaller parts or for seatbelts etc.

Great choice in two ways....1) a Tamiya kit and 2) a "Mossie"!

Ok, now I want to continue with updates, asking questions etc. So do I carry on here or start another topic?

I already have a question regarding paints. The model requires some Tamia paint in spray cans, namely AS9(Dark Green ), AS11(Medium Sea Grey), AS12(Bare Metal Silver) and TS6(Matt Black) all for the camo. I would assume they would all be matt finish, Yes/No??
I am not a perfectionist but still want it to as near as possible and cannot justify the cost of spray cans so am looking at alternatives in the XF range assuming at this stage they are Matt.
I will be using XF1(Matt Black) instead of TS6.
But AS11(Medium Sea Grey) is nothing like XF83(Medium Sea Grey) On the colour chart printout, but will use it anyway, unless any of you can tell me different.
Again AS9(Dark Green) is different to XF81(Dark Green) but I will be using that as well.
AS12(Bare Metal Silver) will become Humbrol Metalic Enamel(brushed on)
So there we are, replies would be greatly appreciated.
