Airfix 1:48 Hawker Fury MkI (A04103)

Airfix 1:48 Hawker Fury I (A04103)
No.1 Squadron, South African Air Force, 1941.

First built as a private venture by Hawker, the first prototype powered by a 480hp Rolls Royce F.XI 12-cylinder liquid cooled engine (later to be called Kestrel) flew in March 1929 and was called at that time the Hornet. The prototype was purchased by the Air Ministry in September 1929 and renamed Fury. A contact followed for 21 airframes in August 1930 with the more powerful 575hp (at 13,000ft) Kestrel II.S and armed with two .303 Vickers machine guns.

Total production of the Fury I for the RAF was 118 aircraft (plus 112 Fury II’s). The Fury had the distinction of being the first production warplane to carry level flight beyond 200mph (322km/h).

The plane was exported to South Africa, Portugal, Yugoslavia, Iran, Norway and Spain.

I enjoyed making the kit which went together quite easily and I used pictures from google to make an attempt at the rigging.

Lovely job. I've got that one on my pile. I thought I would do the silver one, I think it's the 43 Sqdn one. I'll nick your rigging ideas!
