Fine Molds 1/72 Millenium Falcon Paints

Post by SteveLow »

Hi Guys,

Thanks to being in a situation of wanting to build the Fine Molds 1/72 Millennium Falcon and a buddy willing to pay for it, I am about to start work on one. Photo-etch too. :th: After doing a little research on the Internet, I've found a general consensus that the kit recommended colors are too dark, just plain off, etc., etc. Would anyone have any recommendations to the colors I should use?

Thanks for any advice,
Steve

Cool I'm waiting for mine right now, got the pe yesterday.
I will most likely go with some medium gray as a base to show up where the paint is chipped and for the main color use a really light gray, almost white (or maybe a little bit darker) and then add layers of discolorations using oil paints to the panels. This way I can build up the color and darkness of each panel until I like it. I have painted a few star wars models and ome of the problems I've had is using a too dark base coat so this time I'm going to go for a light base and then just weather it to get the right shade.

So basically anyone's medium grey is about right for it? Thanks. Also, you may be interested to know that Hobby Link Japan has a plexiglass and wood base display case that was made especially for the finished kit on sale right now for 85% off. That's $88 USD. 65 Euros.

Hi Steve, and Jon.....
I personally would search out and drop a PM to the very talented builder.. Coen. :thumb1:

Mike built a smaller Falcon for his SciFi SiG entry, also posting numerous build video's on YouTube to accompany the build.
ISM build thread is here... http://intscalemodeller.com/viewtopic.php?f=144&t=1151

Hope this helps..... Its where I'd start, his filtering etc... Is superb.
All the best guys, will be watching you for sure.. :th:

I`ve just this minute ordered the 1/144 Fine Molds from Hobby Link in Japan, can`t wait to finally get my hands on the Falcon

Good to see Coen has done this, I shall be studying those videos mucho carefully in a vain attempt to even get close to his shadows standard.

Man I wanted to order the 1/72, But I didn`t, and my wife says to me.... (after the event of course)....

"Oh you should have just gotten that one"

Its so hard to be this happy, even smiling makes my face ache.

LOL - I sat up all night watching Coen build his (admirable work, he knows his stuff  , I have to find a solution for the canopy masks)

Also you know where to hit a guy - a re-realease of the Eagle....... oooh some scope there for them to really add fine details, gotta look into that one.

I am therefore fully revved up for the 1/144 - but first I have to finish my 1/144 U-Boat (Type XXI with Interior) and then I`ll get started.

I`m so invigorated I even feel like documenting the Type XXI and posting it up on here.
