Well....there she is!

I hope you enjoyed the photos, and, forgive me for posting so many, but it was difficult to choose my favorite photos.

I really enjoyed this build, which had a few firsts for me; 1) My first Hasegawa kit. 2) I made a radio antenna using the "Stretched Sprue" process which I thank Frans Tilburg (Flying Dutchman) for his informative video he uploaded to his YouTube account, and which I took direction from, and finally...3) I made masks for the fuselage squadron markings by cutting the decals out from their sheet and using that sheet as a stencil to air-brush the markings onto the plane.

The kit comes with decals for all the underwing black stripes, the upper wing walk-way black stripes and the tail band. I didn't use any of them and airbrushed all stripes onto the plane.

Overall conclusions: The molded parts were very clean and crisp, flash free (except some very small amounts on a couple of parts), no sink marks, no ejector pin stress marks on visual surfaces, no short shots, blemishes, splays etc and, nicely recessed panel lines and rivet details for pre-shading and highlighting. The clear molded canopy and light parts were very clear and unblemished, too.

I give this kit 8 out of 10 or 4 out of 5 stars, based on finding two issues during the build. The first issue was that there are 3 separate fuselage pieces that build up inside the two main fuselage halves to create the cockpit. This is because the molds include interchangeable inserts so that Hasegawa can offer two options from the one set of molds; the "Bubble-Top" version and the "Car-Door" version. This kit is based on the latter version. The second issue was concerning the decals- they were great decals except for the "Roundels", which I had problems with on two of them. Because the Roundels have three colors, they have been printed in 3 layers, thus the 3 layers of ink make them 3 times thicker than the single layer, single color decals.

Quality of molded product = 9/10 ....the fit of the three cockpit fuselage inserts let the team down.

Quality of assembly instructions = 10/10

Quality of painting instructions = 8/10 (black and white)

Quality of Decals = 7/10

Quality of packaging and box artwork = 9/10

Quality of fits = 8/10 It would have been 10/10 if it wasn't for the 3 fuselage insert panels around the cockpit which required a lot of smoothing down to blend them in, which in turn removed some of the surrounding recessed panel lines and rivet details, therefore, extra work was created to re-scribe them back into the model.

No filler was required throughout the whole build! :D

Quality of details of molded product including options = 8/10.... I built this straight out of the box and it comes with lots of little external details including a nicely detailed cockpit. What I wasn't happy about was that I would have thought the option to have the eight 60lb RP-3 rockets would have been included, as what is a Tank Busting, Train Stopping, Bridge destroying "Tiffy" without rockets?! There are after market resin sets available, along with gun bay, engine, wheels, flaps, rudder and aileron extras, too.

To any modelers who love the "Tiffy", this kit is highly recommended and is a neat option in the Mk.1b "Car-Door" version. If you've been contemplating building a "Hawker Typhoon for the first time....this has to be at the top of your list, or close to it!

Here is the link to the video of this build....please leave comments and subscribe!

...and here is the link to the build thread within this forum, if you haven't already seen it. Included within this build thread are the links to my 3 build update videos on YouTube: http://intscalemodeller.com/viewtopic.php?f=261&t=7137

Thanks to those that have made comments on this thread and the build update videos, and I thank you for taking your time to read, look at the photos and do that when you could be doing something else, greatly appreciated!

Happy modeling! :)

Martin

Very nice, Martin - you've done a great job. :th:

I love the invasion stripes with the wider white bands. That must have been fun to mask!

Hello Fish....thanks for looking and commenting, always appreciated...gives me motivation and confidence to keep pushing :)

The stripes weren't too difficult compared to the fuselage masking for the upper camo-scheme. Fortunately, I think the stripes came out okay except for one small part where the Tamiya tape lifted the white paint when I had masked for the black stripes. So, a little touch up was required.

Cheers, :cheers2:

I just saw your final reveal on the Youtube channel. I like very much the weathering on your Typhoon. especially paint chipping on the supercharger intake and all this staining on the bottom of the model. Very nice job it clearly visual that you made terrific progress since the first build. Keep up good work.
P.S. I have also Typhoon but in tear drop version in my stash, your build will be inspiration to me in the future when I start working on it.
Cheers
