From the shelf of doom.

Well back from holidays, well two weeks working on my big train layout and chasing the grandkids, and I still had a week or so left so what to do. I know rescue one from the shelf of doom and try out the new airbrushes and other goodies. So the most complete was a Tamiya 1/35th Jagdpanther. As we all know this kit is as old as the hills, I think I built my first one 42yrs ago. I decided to practice a bit of weathering using oils, Ultimate washes, AK washes, try some chipping and paint a figure.

Things didn't quite go to plan I forgot the red brown in the camo as I got carried away with the effort. I didn't seal the base colours before I applied the washes so the hole thing changed colour. The base colour is Tamiya desert yellow XF59 with Mr hobby Dark green H423, there should have been red brown in there too but I carried away with the moment. After the paint had dried I started applying washes using Ultimate washes then thinking should I have gloss coated this first so I did. Then I used some artist oils, burn sienna and raw umber and blended them in with ordurless turps. Up to that point the tank was quite bright so the oil washes really toned it down. I left it to dry for a day or so the used some Tamiya panel line accent wash on it as well. Then I thought, bugger the decals, which I should have applied before the wash. I applied the decals over another gloss coat and fixed them with Microset then I applied a flat coat and tried to do some chipping using the sponge method. Hmm need more practice So it's all dried and I took some pictures and if you carefully under the tank you'll see where I forgot to paint the backs of the wheels, see caught up in the moment new airbrushes, new extractor fan to try just had to get it done.
Anyhoo it looks to me that it turned out okay. Not a match winner but okay. StugIII is next.
