Chiefs Italeri 1/72 SR-71

Hey guys, here's my next shelf of doom candidate!

Last time I saw this was April 2013! I wonder if Frans remembers it from my Flickr days?! Lol.

These were the last known pics taken...





I'd somehow lost the whole decal sheet for this, so it went on the shelf til I got replacements from Italeri. Oh, and the fact that it had the worst fit issues I'd ever seen! Combine that with the fact that I only had CA as a filler, on a raised panel line kit, and you can see why it got set aside!

This is where I am now...





First job will be to get some primer down, to see how much more filling and sanding is reqd. Wish me luck!

What are your thoughts on paint?

Are you just spraying primer on top of what is already there, or will you be stripping the paint off by soaking her overnight?

I built a Blackbird few years ago, it was a fun build. I'm waiting to see how this turns out. Good Luck.

Pity he's not active here on ISM, he is getting really good! His diorama's are amazing!

Hi guys update time!

Thanks for the comments. @UkguyinUSA it's moulded in black plastic, no paint on it, yet, lol!

So sprayed some Alclad grey primer on, just to see where filler etc was needed.



As you can see, a fair bit of work required! I had no end of trouble with the primer, clogged up every couple of seconds and needed stripping and cleaning before I could try again! I wasn't in a good mood by the end of it!

Anyway, once the filler had been sanded down, I started with a coat of dark grey blue, followed by clear and decals.





Then I must've been distracted, as I did my usual trick of finishing without taking pics!

Basically, I did some streaking with dark grey oils. Some panel shading with white oils, and some post shading with Tamiya smoke. Then a misting of highly thinned smoke to blend it all together.

Finally a Matt coat went on to seal it all in.



So that's another one off the shelf of doom! It's good therapy seeing them out of the way! Lol!

PS the eagle eyed may notice that the SR-71 was so secretive, even pilots weren't allowed to fly it!!!
