I went to my local hobby store to grab some paint and saw this kit. Then I heard Lee's voice in my head I'm was hoping for more entries in the WWI Centenary SiG(from the August show). I figured I like WWI aircraft why not and bought it got home and realized I forgot to get the paint I went for in the first place. Oh well I guess I'll have to take another trip the to hobby store

This is a 1:48 Fokker D.VII (OWA) ProfiPACK by Eduard. It was not a bad price and it has 4 color schemes to choose from and some photo etch.






I am going to build the B. Franz Büchner, Jasta 13 version.

Seems a great kit ! I'm liking so much in doing my Fokker D.I that I should try one of this ...

Wow! I ordered this kit a week and a half ago as one of my two entries for the WWI SiG! Now that I've seen the contents of the box, I'm excited to make a start on it. The paint scheme options look awesome, but my only issue is, I've never done PE before, so I have a learning curve to climb along with buying the necessary tools to do it with.

Help....can anyone recommend what tools I need for PE?!!

I'm new to the PE parts also. The nice thing about the PE in this kits it's already painted. So I'm hoping the paint wont come off when I bend the pieces which happened to me the first time. The only tools I have used with the PE so far have been an Exact-O blade to cut the parts off. Be sure to put your finger or something on the piece you are cutting so the piece doesn't go flying. A fine file or an old sanding stick to remove the burrs. A toothpick so I had something to help shape the piece such as a seat belt that drapes over the seat.

There are a couple other items I use with PE. Insta-Cure Gap Filling Glue it has a set time of about 15 seconds. Also some Blue Mounting Putty called Fun-Tak its made by Loctite. Mainly I use it to pick up the pieces off my work table so I don't bend them all up.

Well I have most of the cockpit is done and in place. Everything went together nicely and I am very impressed with this kit so far. The decals are amazing so far I say this now knowing I have a lot more decals to do The decals are slightly over-sized which is super. They fit and conformed to the inside of the cockpit beautifully I am very impressed with them. I used Micro Set and Micro Sol on the decals and let them set for a minute or two. Then I used a Q-Tip to help the decal form around the raised detailing. As for paints I'm using Mr Color for this kit and tried some new techniques. For the cockpit floor I painted it with Sandy Brown(19) first. After it was dry I applied Wood Brown(43) almost like a dry brush and finished it off with Clear Orange(49) to give it and Orange Gloss coat. On the yoke handles I just used the Wood Brown and Clear Orange. I used the same technique on the seat with a base of Red Brown(41), dry brushed Sandy Brown with a top coat of the Clear Orange. The compass on the floor is a 2 piece PE which are attached together on the PE sprue so I just folded the pieces together and used some Micro Kristal Klear to make it look like it had glass. It sorta worked ok. That's all I have for you now

Nice looking kit, and some great detail work.

It's interesting to compare this kit with the WnW DVII I'm doing. I can see from this one, for example that the decals on this kit are better designed than my WnW one. For example, in my WnW the wing decals are one solid piece so getting the wing tips to bend down and around wrinkle free is a pita. Whereas in yours the wingtips are separate and so in theory should be a lot easier to get on without wrinkles.
