Not sure how you were going to break this down but I thought if I created a new thread for Hong Kong perhaps anyone who has any dealing with Hong Kong can post them here. Just a thought.

I have had excellent service from a company in Hong Kong called LuckModel.com

I live in the USA and have never had a delay with their shipping.

You have to keep an eye on shipping costs but I generally find that they have things in stock when they are not available in the USA. Good turn around time and good service. used them for about a year now on and off.

I have found they are very cheap on a lot of things. I watch the shipping costs to make sure I'm either saving money or getting something I can't find in the USA when I need it. Recommend them a lot

Haha.. and I hate when that happens because then you have an extra shipping charge to pay and more for the wife to ask me about when she see's the credit card bill for "stuff" from Hong Kong.

Anyone know how their tracking system work ? They provide you with 2 website one says the item is unavailable and the other is the deutsche post ( and i'm not german).

If you have a get an post tracking number go to the German post web sit and use their English site.

Punch in your tracking number. (Following their example!). If you have to remove a few numbers or letters do so!

Make sure to collect the shipping date from Luckymodels as well you will need it!

No it doesn't work I tried pretty much everything from RC090667002HK to e.g. RC 0906 6700 2 HK. I guess I will just wait.

Great prices, fair shipping, great selection (especially military/air and aftermarket)
Only thing is they can be a lil slow processing orders especially if they are waiting on stock etc but they are always prompt when emailed with queries.

I use credit cards with no hassle, and the exchange rate is better through my bank than paypal.

I've just been hit with customs charge for a parcel from Lucky Model Hong Kong. It's either 34% of the total for the 6 kits I bought or, if it's the metal barrel I ordered for my SU-85 then it's 1,187% of the total I paid. I've just been and read the 'Policies' page on Lucky Model and it states quite clearly that I may be liable and the fees are all my responsibility. Just a heads up for all of you buying from abroad.

OUCH!!!! Man I have never had that problem in years. I have no idea about customs but surely you're allowed a certain amount before having to pay customs? Man that is not good mate - sorry to hear that. Thanks for letting us know. There has to be something different with your order perhaps? Otherwise this would put LuckyModel out of business if people had to pay customs on all their orders - nobody would use them. Does not make sense mate.

You won't have got hit with it mate as there is no import duty for plastic model kits going into the U.S. Have a read of this taken from Lucky Models website:

5. Import Duty and Taxes

Custom policies vary from country to country. For example, there should be no import duty or taxes on plastic model kits for U.S. However, customers in other countries will usually have to pay import duty or taxes. Your orders may be subject to import duties and taxes and any additional charges for custom clearance and must be borne by you. Lucky Model has no control over these charges and does not assume responsibility for the ordered goods meeting local customs laws and duties and taxes. Taxation and import duties also might not be applied if customs does not inspect your package. When ordering from Lucky Model, you are considered as the importer of goods and must comply with all the laws and requirements of your country. Please contact your local customs office for further information.

If the package is refused and returned to us due to your refusal to pay customs tax and duties, you will be responsible for the return shipping charges and a re-stocking fee of 15% of your order amount. Shipping fees are not refundable. The remaining balance will then be refunded back to you.

Thanks to MikhailBakunin for some relevant info I now know the limit in the UK is £15 and this was confirmed by Royal Mail when I phoned them just now. It is the larger parcel so a 34% increase on what I thought I'd paid. It will be worth looking to see if it would be cheaper to order kits separately and pay more for p&p. Just something to bear in mind.

of course if you buy the biggest and baddest kits or get a CASE of them shipped ! it makes it difficult to ignore on the Custom and duties line up ! so... we have to consider the limitations of what a custom agent may let pass... or decides to Inspect ???

I got dinged a few times by customs and there is no way around it but to pay ! if you challenge... I bet you name gets FLAGGED ! LOL sounds paranoid but in this day and age!!! nothing will surprise me !

Lets hope our next purchases passes under the Radar...!!!

I recall LuckyModels putting a lower value on the Declarations Label than the actual price. I think it was £50 instead of £100?

you can actually ask for that... and many more things... all you have to do is... CLICK on a few
radio buttons during the check out process !

Yeah, you read it right. I don't know the limits in Canada but in the UK try and keep each parcel under £15 but, of course you have to watch the p&p charges as they will be more if it's all separate. This, of course, only applies to smaller, cheaper models and not on the bigger, more expensive kits. I think I still had a bargain, I haven't worked it out yet but this is what I ordered and lets see how good a bargain I actually got:

(This isn't exactly what I paid once it had been converted from USD to HKD to GBP but it's close enough.)

On top of that I paid £13.52 in p&p and then I paid £4.46 in customs charges and then £8.00 in Royal Mail handling fees.

All this gives us a total of £23.40 in kits and £25.98 in charges. So what have I actually paid for each kit?

Btw the lower posted price on the parcel will go tits up if it goes missing as it'll only be insured for the amount written on the package.

Here in NZ customs will generally not show interest on anything under $300 which is about 140-160 of your old English pounds
They are looking at adding our 15% gst to Internet orders but want the credit card companies to figure it out, so there is gonna be ways around it, and it is not going to stop model builders as stores here simply cannot on price or selection of the huge Asian suppliers who ship here at very good rates.
