Global Scale Modeller

Here is a kit that was started but never finished, as you will see from the pictures. Hopefully I will be able to finish this kit before the deadline. It does contain some add-ons and I will try and get some of that added on to the kit. A lot of it will not be seen but I want to add it for practice but may not take the time to paint it all unless it will be scene.

I thought I took a picture of the frame with the engine so I will add that next time. You can kind of see it in the first picture. Now I need to figure out where to start. Thanks, see you in a few days.

Thanks, Here is the picture I promised last thread.


I did a dry fit and the top would not fit correctly. I figured out why this kit was shelved. The resin engine was not installed correctly. Easy solution just remove it. That was a pain in the butt. I broke about 4 other pieces off the side but finally got it out.



After everything was removed I was going to leave it out an then though you have all that resin use it. Lets make this a challenge. Plus if i screw it up I can always display it with the cover closed. Well i discovered that the instruction on resin really suck. . I figure i needed to cut out some areas so that the resin would fit. Here is what I cut out.

I am still trying to figure out how i am going to install the side panel but here is a dry fit. I also don't know the best way to try and paint it yet. Any suggestions?? The motor must go in first then the side detail otherwise it will not fit correctly.

This is looking all good George and nice work on the engine detail, will be keeping an eye on this one building up...

When you say how to paint it what do you mean, paint type on the resin? Make sure you give the resin a quick wash, warm (not to hot though) soapy water, rinse, dry and then primer. I usually use a can of Halfords Grey Primer which I think will give you a good solid base to start painting on, light coats and don't go mad with the rattle can and you can achieve excellent results. Once that has gone off you can pretty much hit it with anything. Hope that's of some help?

Thanks everyone. I was not sure what color to paint the engine. Not that it matters much you wont see much unless the hatch is open. I have started painting the inside. I primed everything and painted the engine area tamiya XF-73 Dark Green and the interior Tamiya XF-2 white along with a littyle detail painting. I will be painting the engine area soon and I want to add a little more detail inside for practice as you will only see a little of the interior when I am finished.


Here all the wheels and engine are primed.


Next time I should have the tires painted and the engine painted and installed. Thanks for looking.

Hi George, Looking very good indeed mate. I'd be tempted to paint out the engine bay in white as well and then give it a wash to knock it back. Looking great though and that control panel looks the business!

Here's how it turned out. I painted it the XF-58 and the engine base of black and different metal colors. I did add a little dust to give it a faded look.

Nice videos. I wish I would have seen that before I did my interior. I have another resin engine for this kit. I plan on picking up another Tamiya M-8 Greyhound and doing it again. I think I will also pick up the interior resin kit too. Will be fun. Plus for me if I build a kit twice it seems like it always comes out better the second time. Thanks again Tiger131.

Here's just a quick update. I have been working on the outside installing panels and handles. The kit came with some but I decided to try my hand at making some. I also have started working on some figures for this kit. I will show you a close up as soon as I get all the handles finished.

Thanks. I talked to scale model medic about his in the videos unfortunately his went to the shelf of doom and was never finished He is hoping to start it back up sometime.

I have almost everything put together just a few more parts on the main body. I will need to mask the tires first and then install the side panels. I have also primed the driver. Getting close.

lookin real good so far.....gonna need to add this kit to the stash.....great job!!

That's come along nicely since I last checked in, great work in the engine bay

Just a little update. I have finished the driver and he is all painted. I needed to finish him and glue him in before I painted the outside because he was a bear to install. Next time I will wait to glue the top on. I also primed all the guns, tools and turret.

The driver is installed. Big pain in the butt to get him in and glued in place. I will cover him up and then primer.



Here everything is painted green and I have also added some stowage. I will spray it with a mixture of the green and a little white to highlight the lighter areas. The stowage only has the base coat on it. I still need to highlight the creases and pant the straps.

This is looking great George, excellent progress. Like what you have done with the grab handles, nice attention to detail. Your driver fella looks good as well. Keep up the good work, coming along nicely.

Here is a little update. Everything is glossed for the decals and I have put a few on. Will finish the rest tonight and then put some wash on her.

Here she is with all the decals and the wash on. I also added the rest of the stowage. I want to add one more figure to it. He will be standing up next to the machine gun in the turret. He has been primed I just need to paint him. I still need to add the machine gun and the tow cable. Getting close to the finish line.

Heres another update. I installed the towage cable and added a little dirt/dust to take the newness off. The last figure is almost done. I still need to paint his holster and belt. Any color suggestions is appreciated. I think the next update will be the reveal show. I do need to paint and add the mines too. Thanks for all the compliments and following this build.

Looks fantastic! The soldiers look exceptionally realistic. I do have a technique question, though. How did you apply your washes? I'm assuming airbrush...but what consistency? I'm new to this technique and I'm actively trying to learn as much as I can.

Eric thanks. I am new to this too but this is what I did. For the washes I put a high gloss varnish on (Acrylic Model Master) let it cure for a day. I then used an enamel wash (Testors Create FX stain). I sometime make my own but happen to pick this up at the hobby store and wanted to try it. It work really well best i've used so far. I just touched it to any part and it moved into all the recess. Once it was dry and I liked the effect I applied a flat varnish over everything. To give it a dusty appearance I mixed the original XF 63 color, XF -2 white and tamiya thinner. I kept adding white till I got the color mixture I thought was light enough and then thinned it by about 75%. I did not need much of the mixture to cover the M-8. When spraying I tried to hit the highlight areas and the decals. The last thing I added to the vehicle was the figure and he was still in a gloss coat varnish/black wash status when I glued him. Then sprayed everything again with the flat varnish thinned just a little. At the very end I added some black pigment dust in some areas.

I hope this helps you. Like I said earlier I am a beginner to this is probably my 10th kit. Paul and Coen from this site are a great help I always PM them asking questions. The hangouts are great too just join the ISM facebook page and you will get the invitation to them. The guys are fun to talk to and always willing to answer questions. Its neat to see what everyone is working on.
