I wanted a quick kit for a little decompression after trying to get my WWII build done in time for the deadline. This one is a fairly poor kit in fit and detail; just what I needed! Really. I don't have to worry about anything with this kit. Just put it together, paint it, decal it and done! It will be in flight since the landing gear is so bad.

Last year sometime I was trying to get myself building more (I have a TON of kits)! I was buying magazines I hadn't bought before, and most were from England so there were a lot of British planes I'd never seen. Also, after I found this forum I saw even more great planes from the 60' and 70's: the cold war! I love the cold war period of jets in the USA and was liking what I saw of the UK jets from the time so I started looking at getting some. So, instead of working on the stash I added to it. This Seahawk is one of two I bought in the last few months, the other being the Lightning in 1/48. The Seahawk looked easier...

You've got more patience than I have DB, that kit would gone
I much prefer Cold War than modern jets likewise.
I recommend a two part BBC documentary called Cold War Hot Jets, it's a brief history of Brit jets all sorts of interesting stuff including the government of the mid-50's selling jet engines to the USSR!!

Here is more work today. Does the word "filler" come to mind? And sanding. Lots of sanding.

Ah, one of the better fitting Airfix kits I will say that the newer moulding kits are pretty good now, just look at the new Typhoon.

Just those last few photos give me tremors and flashbacks to my Airfix Kit filling nightmares that I had with my 1/48 Junkers Ju87b-2!

A good tip that was passed onto me for removing filler is to moisten a cotton bud/Q-Tip in Nail Polish Remover and rub it across the extra filler areas. It just wipes away like a dream, but when you get to the joints, just gently stroke across the top. It prevents having to do a ton of sanding, except the slightest gentlest strokes at the joint areas once the excess has gone.

You might already know this, but if you don't, give it a whirl, it's easy and saves a ton of time!

Still plugging away at the Seahawk. Got primer and some flat white on. Will need to give another coat of white on the underside, touch up the cockpit, then buff it out for the blue and the gloss. This will be an in flight display since I only have a couple of those done.

Well, you stuck with it and there's no sign of filler and gaps on that last photo....looking good

Here is a bit more painting on the Seahawk. Underside done, will mask it to paint the blue upper side. I was going to paint it white but decided I like the sky color better.

wow! that must be one of the old tooling airfix kits. I absolutely hate filling and sanding. I hate it so much. Yours is looking outstanding though!

Yes, I am still plugging away! I put on a few decals when I'm not working on something else. I really screwed up by not using the weapons or tanks since the decals are cut away to fit those parts! Duh. Ignore the tail hook. I wasn't stoned, but I don't have a good explanation for the painting. By the way, the putty is just Squadron white putty.

How did you do the pilot figure? I'm trying to do one at this scale at the moment and it's like trying to paint the face of an ant!!

Is nail polish remover acetone? Though its probably cheaper to buy as npr. If so it can also be use to get you out of trouble when you've superglued your fingers to the back of your ear!!
