Hi Guys,

A while ago I was googeling pictures of a Stuart Tank.
I came across this picture of a Captured Stuart that was converted to an anti tank weapon with a Pak 40 on top:



As I am a big fan of odd ones and conversions I wanted to build one!
So I got on ebay and bought this Pak 40 75mm gun from Tamiya:



Than went looking for a Stuart to stick the pak onto.
And to my horror came across this kit:



Cause first of I thought that where was no such kit and that it had to be put together from two kits.
Now a part of the challenge was gone but I had already bought the Pak!

I thought, well what the heck. I'm gonna mod it anyway and bought a Stuart M5A1:



And I went looking for more images of that strange contraption and found some:













Together with some images of other kits I got enough material to go modding!

I started with building the Pak:



Now I going to start with the Stuart..

Hi Guys,

I realised (way too late) that the Stuart that I needed for this project is an M3A3 and not an M5A1 that I bought!!
The hull of the M5A1 has an elevated back which you get in the way of the men standing on the deck loading the gun.
So I had to do some extra modding.
I started cutting away at hull and created a flat deck piece from the parts that came of and some leftovers from an other stuart:







This way I converted my M5 to M3 (more or less)

These Yugoslavs Really cool model, saw it several times in books along with other modifications these guys did, they had quite a few workshops apparently. I´m looking forward to see how this goes along, it is a pretty big project.

I got hold of images of the instruction sheet of the Stuart Pak from Ding Hao Hobby.
So I could see how it is put together in detail!

I made several pieces from plate material and started modding.

The turret hole is covered up with a plate and there is a section in it with a 'shell holder' if that's a word.
I cut away on the Pak under carriage to be left with the part to stick on the plate.





It fits!



Made frontal armer:



And side armer plates:



And added the the 'snow track additions'

Hi guys,

After modding the Stuart I had to mod the guys maning the vehicle too.
The Pak came with 3 German figures. I Turned 2 of them into Yugoslavs!
I scraped away parts of their uniforms and made hats from miliput.



I looked up images of Yugoslav uniforms and noticed that they differed in color a lot.
So I painted them in haphazard colors:



They still need washes, dry brushing and oil paint rendering.

I looked everywhere for color references of the Stuart Pak. And didn't find anything
except black and white images. I saw a picture of a Stuart Flak with camo colors but the Stuart Pak didn't have that.
Any info on colors is wildly appreciated.
For now a went with the Stuart in it's own olive green and the pak in it's field grey.
I kind a like the feel that it is put together and quickly put into action.

Here an update:

Painted the Yugoslav flag and did the chipping.



Detail painting and tracks:



Did dusting and mudd with pigments. Used my newly bought pigment fixer and love the effect and the ease of use of pigments this way
to create these effects opposed to using oil paint. Which takes up way more time than the pigment application.

Next up is oil paints for stains and rust.
Can't do everthing with pigments

The Stuart Pak is finished!
I decided to make a little base for it. In the first picture of this vehicle that I found, it is parked in a street.
So I made a little patch of street with DAS Clay, some bent copper pipe and a square mold made of plastic.
Pictures of this are after the final pictures of the Stuart Pak.

Only one image with the figures. Cause they aren't the best..





























And here are the pictures of the dio so far..





For the cobble stones of the road I used a trick that I learned from another guy here at ISM during the WW2 group build.
Copper pipes bent the pressed into the clay.



For the pavement tiles I made a little square mold from plastic.



That's all for now folks.
The Stuart Pak is finished but the dio needs drying, painting and weathering.

Hi Guys,

The base is finished. I painted it blue grey. Then I did a dark wash to be followed by pigments for the crevasses to give variation and extra shadows.
Then a dry brush for the stones and tiles. And more toning with pigments then I added some dirt (white glue with pigments) and leaves, moss and grass.

Here's the result:

Somebody suggested I add a streetlight or something else to liven up the dio.
I was already thinking about a streetlight, so decided to build one from scrap and left overs:





I also put a light bulb in but this got obscured by the opacity of the surrounding glass. I'm thinking to replace this.

Great demo of your techniques, the result looks amazing! i really like the chipping, very realistic nice idea to convert the included figures right away, clever.
