Hello Guys,

Here are my final entry photos into the D-Day 70th Anniversary Group Build for my Verlinden 120mm Tall 101st Airborne Paratrooper "Easy Company" that is part two of a thee part build series in commemoration of my Father-In-Law's service as a 101st Airborne Paratrooper with the 2/327th GIR "E" company during WWII.
This is the first ever figure build that I have done, as I'm strictly a aircraft builder, and therefore, I'm at the beginning of the learning curve with figures!

Following on from where build update # 2 left off I began by detailing the base;








I then began adding details to the separate parts and added a basecoat to the face:





The "Entrenching Tool" and bayonet...




The Dagger....





The Canteen and Sidearm....





I then assembled the figure and because this kit doesn't come with painting instructions or decals, all paint shades were custom mixed and I thought that I would attempt painting the "Airborne" Arm Bar and the "Screaming Eagle" Badge. Therefore, I painted the black background for these onto his left shoulder/upper arm...





Followed by painting the white Eagle head, then the yellow beak and red tongue....





I then took a piece of Tamiya tape and drew a small "Spade" symbol onto in and cut it out of the tape to leave a mask. I then stuck this onto the helmet and painted the white "Spade" Easy Company emblem...





I then added some shading to the overall figure, airbrushed a matte clear coat onto it and it was complete. Enjoy the views....





















































Well there you have him....go easy guys, I have bad eyes, no magnifying glass and this is my first figure, but constructive criticism is most welcomed!

Overall, the resin figure is a joy to build and has some great detailed items that go together to produce a nice overall representation of a 101st Airborne Paratrooper
as he would have looked on D-Day.

The only issues that I had with this kit are it only comes with one bag of 22 parts, no painting guide and no decals for his badges and helmet emblem, and thus all colors were custom mixed and the badge and emblem hand-painted.

Would I recommend this kit: Yes, very highly so to anyone that enjoys figure building and to those that wish to try out a figure for the first time. Just be aware of safety when using resin; wear latex gloves, a good mask and do your cutting and filing outdoors to prevent breathing any of the carcinogenic dust into your lungs.

I would also recommend using a smooth file to remove the small spots of resin that sit on the surface of the model, that I didn't see with my eyes, but after completing him, taking photos and looking at him magnified in these images, I can see these spots, which annoyed me. Oh well, I did say that I'm at the beginning of the learning curve with figures and also, this is the first time that I've worked with resin.

Martin , sorry but I got a critic , and I must mention it ...you know that I must mention this important things...

Seems that you miss to paint a mohican hair cut on the trooper...

Martin , everybody mention it ...what can we say ? to me is incredible work what you did here, for a first figure it is just amazing what you did

All the paint work , the way you paint the batches , the detail on the gun , the holster, everything ,

even the Highlights are very well ...

Another fine work and quite a tribute that you have made ! A winner !

omg that patch and the helmet ....really really nice work Martin!!

Really fantastic work for your first time out! As far as the constructive criticism is concerned, take it with a grain of salt as I have never painted a figure in my life. I think his boots are a bit too clean for standing in mud. The patches are awesome for being hand painted.

Hey mincemeat, no, I agree, and funny enough, I intended to do it, but was too excited to show him off and missed it out, along with putting the American flag on the right shoulder of his upper jacket sleeve.

I also did the "Spade" motif on his helmet, which is the correct symbol for the 516th "Easy Company", but jut recently, whilst working on the third part of this project, I discovered that the symbol on the helmets of my Father-In-Law's regiment 2/327th was the "Club", or the three leaf clover. So, I'm going to paint over the "Spade" and repaint a "Club" symbol as worn by him, dirty his boots and put the flag on his arm to correct him

Well, make sure you gives us the updated pictures then! I bet it will be fantastic! I'm terrible at making things symmetrical. I can only do the right side of the Batman symbol, the left side always gets weird.

Yes, I was happy with how my first attempt at a figure turned out and will definitely be doing more of these, because they hardly take up any room!
