Hi guys

I'm about to start weathering my chieftain and have both a filter and wash available

My question is can i use them both on it or will I be wiser sticking to just one effect ? And if so which would you recommend

Use a pin wash (well thinned) to highlight, recesses, panel lines, bolts, rivets etc, anything that will hold a wash. Then apply a filter and it'll tie it all together.

Hi,

small question over here - in case of oil / enamel based washes and filters - should there be a protective layer (e.g. satin varnish) between wash and filter?
I'm asking because in such case in both cases solvents will be the same and may interact with previous layer (e.g. wash out the pin wash).

Good question! I assume that you're correct, but I'll let someone with more experience give the definitive answer! Lol. I've tried a couple of times and found that they do interact with each other, but that might be because I'd not let them dry properly? I'm sooo impatient!!

If your using an oil wash then yes a clearcoat will be needed.

I use acrylic washes,so there's no reaction from the enamel based filters.

Do you use some ready products for filters (e.g. those from Vallejo) or you do them by yourself ?

In case of acrylic filters is the rule the same - mixture of at least 95/5 solvent / paint ?
