1/35 Tasca US Assault tank M4A3E2 Sherman Jumbo

With one less project on the bench (corsair), i though it time to add a new armour build to it.

Ive never built any allied armour before or a tasca, so thought id take the plunge with this awesome kit. The fit of parts os beyond belief with a lot of parts fitting with no glue, a real top drawer kit that shows it £47 price tag (although i got this at a bargain £27

)

This is my progress in 4 hours work on a hangout, unlike other kits whre you get a preformed hull you build it all on this so theres a bit more work involved, which is good.

Its a very well detailed kit, well worth a look at if your after another sherman

She's a beauti that's for sure. The fits are superb the instructions.... Well not so much.
I thought that they were better than dragons though... Once I got my head around the unusual build sequence.

Here's that picture that I was blathering on about.
Thats a jumbo in the front and possibly Creighton Abrams' easy eight in the back.

I'll be starting eigher AFV M36 Jackson or a Academy M10 Duckbill??

There's a problem with the afv club Jackson Nige. The engine deck is all wrong. The engine deck in the academy Jackson can be used to fix it... That's why I hav it haha. I got the academy one really cheap just so I can use it to fix the afv club one.

More progress tonight, slow progress on these kits as theres a lot to do, very high parts counts makes it a really busy build. Great kit though and you get value for money thats for sure.

Love your builds, and even though I am an Armour Freak, I still watch your "Wingy" type builds when you do them.
This looks one for a bit of cash outlay.

Well its now fully assembled, the bogies were tough work and a real challenge. The .50cal mg was a work of art superb engineering to produce plastic parts that are on par with resin.

Ive just put one track on to test fit and for the pics.

I'd forgotten about those duckbill tracks. Those are really nicely done too. Damn!
You're definitly right about that .50, its a wonder. Those turret hatches are nice too. Look at that crisp detail.

Tossing up whether to get the Dragon or Tasca M4A4 - is there a huge difference in quality - your Tasca looks very very fine Paul!

I shouldn't be looking
There is a tasca firefly Vc in my stash waiting for an excuse to be build
But this looks like a great kit and the build is looking smashing (little bit of Lee influence)
Where the tracks ridgit or flexible because the tracks in my kit are hard enough to knock a hole in the wall

So got this painted today, following mikes advice (as this is my first US armour) I used the ammo olive drab colours using the olive drab base all over, then the dark base for all the shadows and lower areas, the highlight for all the upper raised sufaces and the highlight was drybrushed all over the raised sufaces.

Very happy with the result, clear coat next then decals

So back to this hoping i can get it finished by new year.

Its was gloss coated and the preworn decals applied it was glossed again and pin washed using a black/brown oil wash mix. I then chipped it using a sponge and brush with vallejo 150 german cam black brown. Once i was happy with that i then matt coated it, the chipping showed up a lot stronger then and it looks a lot heavier than i really wanted but it should tone down some with weathering.

The 50 cal was airbrushed with alclad gunmetal and then dry brushed with a semi metallic scale 75 colour, ill add a black oil wash to it too and it'll be finished.

Got some legend and reality in scale stowage to add to it

And a Nemrod crew too

Progress on the sherman over the last few days. It's been given a filter and oil dot faded ive also painted up the stowage dry brushed and washed it needs matt coating , next up the tracks and final weathering and the crew

Far from finished but this was as i was shutting shop for the night after the hangout

The reality in scale logs are superb

I just noticed that the white dot filter has acted more like a wash on the turret top Paul. I couldn't see that until I saw these shots. They're much better than the others.
Before you do anything else, you may want to thin that a tad with some spirits, just to reduce the collection around the details. Don't be to vigorous or you'll pull up the other paint though.
Unless you're going for a winter look, then it's fine.
