Highly thinned xf1 wash

Hi guys, i've seen reference to this highly thinned xf1 wash all over the forum and some youtube builds by Paul, any ideas what "highly" thinned is or is it a trade secret . I want to try it on my next build and don't want to mess it up.

Ive stopped using that wash now in favour of a thinned black/brown oil wash, its much more controllable.

Thanks for the reply Paul, do you mean like Windsor and Newton kinda oils? Thinned with what and do you just brush them on or spray? Thanks for taking the time to answer the questions.

I use artists oil thinned with mineral spirits and its brushed on

SkEeZicks Try to get the best quality oils possible avoid student grade if You can .
If You apply them over a flat coat they will become a "filter" and will influence the hue of the base coat beneath by leeching into the rough surface of the matt varnish. This is sometimes a really nice effect if used sparingly .
Applied over a satin coat and they will more readily colour around the details, try mixing in a little Humbrol flat black e.g. or similar enamel with a rusty brown oil to vary the tone this will make them dry faster and will dry to the touch in a few minutes with mineral spirits ,then dampen a brush in spirits wip0ing the excess on a kitchen tissue after they seem dry. The excess can then be removed and lines tidied up and blended if desired .
Just to clarify try to use acrylics for base colour and varnish coats if using oily products to weather .
Artists grade oils are less grainy and wont separate as freely when subjected to spirits. Hope I didn't seem to be teaching you to suck eggs.

The mig 502 oils are very good quality and are what i use
