The tactical role of these machines were to provide additional firepower as heavy armored car, a squadron of these beeing attached to each motorized reco unit (Aufklärungs Kompanie) attached to the Panzerdivizionen. Other vehicles of these units included by 1939 Kübelwagens and Schmimmwagens, Zündapp or BMW sidecars, Sd Kfz 141 light armoured cars, and several Schwere Panzerspähwagen.
Image

In each company, there was also a 232 variant equipped with a powerful long range radio apparatus. Later on, it appeard that a more heavier armament was needed inside the reco unit
Image

The 231 and radio-version 232, introduced before the campaign of Poland soldiered well until the end of the war. They were seen on nearly every front, from the Mediterranean to Russia and North Africa and most of Europe. With the DAK (Deutsche Afrika Korps), they proved invaluable and fitted perfectly with Rommel's combined arms tactic and unique vision of desert warfare. The flat ground of the wide desert expenses allowed this armoured car to give its full potential, although it has never been conceived for a hot environment and never properly "tropicalized". The engine, notably, suffered badly under this climate.

since the original armour was never intended to sustain more than small arms fire and shrapnells fragments, the platoons tried to evade clashes with other AFVs when possible. However in many cases, these machines were seen providing infantry support and destroying light tanks and enemy armored cars alike. Speed, combined with surprise, could bring very efficient results thanks to the rapid-fire and devastating HE rounds of the 20mm at short range. Their superior agility also helped them to steer backwards and evades quickly a superior force if needed. In other cases, many served as ad hoc police patrol vehicles, dealing with partisans in the Balkans and Russia.

That's a nice looking kit with all the extras you have. Will you be putting the vehicle and figures into a diorama setting? :thumb1:

Little update. The späwagen is finished and starting to add stowage.
Image
Antenna is from a dragon kit. Drilled out the old antenna mounts. Mg34 and distance rods.

Now for some stowage!
Image
Dryfitted and then a rolled out blanket of milliput white is fitted over the "stowage". Pressed and wiped down with a cottonbud dipped in some water.
Rolled the milliputty out with some flouer

Result
Image

Image

Gonna fit it to the späwagen with some canvas stuff from am works
Image

Image

Image

If you want to be able to take the canvas off you put some thin plastic wrapping in between. I didnt cause I can work around it on this wagen and it lifts the canvas during the work
Good night!

First tamiya kit. I just pointed and plastic just jumped together. Not the same detail as dragon but I still loved it.

Tnx Coen. Means alot.
Quick update
Went to town with hs chipping and added stencils from am works. Little tribute to the sig. Ism 6w sig license plate. Oxidrot vallejo cavalry brown 70.982 then matt varnish, dry, hairspray, base tamiya german grey.
Image

Painted rubber! Base xf77
Shadows thinned base + xf1
Highlights base + xf2
Drybrush over shadows panzer aces light rubber 305
wheel rims tamiya german grey. Stencil from am works
Image

Thoughts on how to continue.
1. Finish camo with hairspray method
2. Rust exhaust.
3. Orange filter to make it look desert hot. Grey looks very cold.
4. Oildot fading and create shadows by using light and dark tones
5. Finish chipping and build on the hs teq

Interesting and enjoyable build log, I like seeing this come together and might have a go at one of these.

Update

Drybrushed sandcolor + white. Thinned to skimmed milk. Sry for the bad light
Image

Played with vegetation, the roots are grassrots and rots from a plant at the beach. Glued with pva glue mixed with water.
Image

Close up
Image

Close up and started the work on a rusted barrel with gloss yellow
Image

Last steps is tiny bits of pigment here and there. The same as Im gonna use on the späwagen and seal it in with matt varnish. Waiting for balsawood to arrive. Happy modelling!

That base is just superb mate, I'm going to have to go through your thread over and over to try to replicate what you have done there.

Wonderful. :thumb2:

Thank you!

Little rust update on how I like to do rust.
Primed then GLOSS yellow
Image

Use 4 diffrent aqrylics

Image

Image

Image

Image

Wash on. Brown for dark rust and yellow for light rust
Image

Pigments mig rust pigments. Focus the dark color on edges
Image

Speckling oilpaint with a stiff brush to give the rust a 3d effect. Flick the first load on papper. Check the sieze of the spots. More paint=bigger spots.

Thank you all. Warms my cold scandie heart. I forgot some info. Its good to do the aqrylic wet to get some more colors. For more yellow rust thin the aqrylic more. Rest is complete drying and fix the pigments or the oil speckling will no give the 3d effect.

I like ott weathering. Sometimes its go pete tong wrong and sometimes its dog's dangly bits
Once again thank you all for taking your time to watch my work. :cheers2: :
