I found this kit while looking through my stash for something completely different

I have plans to add it to a larger UN diorama in the future, but for the moment, I'm enjoying building something Canadian!

In 1977 Canada begin the legacy of the LAV fleet by placing an order for 491 6x6 LAVs, which the customer referred to as Armoured Vehicle General Purpose (AVGP). There were three variants of this vehicle built. The first variant, the Grizzly, was an infantry carrier. The second variant, a Cougar, had a 76mm turret and was used by units of the Royal Canadian Armoured Corps. The final variant, the Husky, was a recovery vehicle. Canada has deployed this vehicle operationally to such areas as Cyprus, the Balkans and Somalia. The AVGP fleet has since been retired from service.

nice coloured paint callout
Image

I started with the wheel wells. Apparently the first step is #7... this will be the first among MANY instruction errors.
Image
Image

I have to admit, this Cougar is developing a very nice underside... 8-) :wtf: ;)

they move
Image

These parts didn't fit AT ALL!
You can see the lowsy fitt. There isn't room to insert the axels into the their holes based on where some armour plates are...
Image

So, I sanded them down to fit, here you can see how much had to be taken off.
Image

Now it all fits beautifully

Clear blue? really? sort of a strange colour call out for this... no?

Put together the back plate

Alright, that's all for now! next will be p.e and joining the halves together.

Thanks for stopping by!

Looks like a very nice kit, ought to be an excellent build. The clear blue color call outs for the vision blocks sounds right to me.Tamiya X23 clear blue would be a good choice :cheers2:

Update #2!

PE time!

A nice side shot

The only places that needed some filler were in the back corners, other than that - awesome fit!

Turret Time

The random copper wire piece is to hold the extra front tire in place... I could think of a million better ways... but, whatever. super glued and trimmed.

That's all for now. I think the build is finished. I'll post some of those photos. Gotta spray some parts with clear blue and red before really getting down to the priming... plus, there's a shovel on the sprues, but no holes or anywhere to put it... should I just find a place and do it anyways?! Everyone loves shovels, don't they?

Coming along great :thumb2: I built this one a while ago and it was a really fun one! :D

Just saying shouldn't there be another PE triangular-foldy-thing on the other side at the back-top of the turret, smaller than the one in the 3rd photo from the bottom? I think it's PE-7? I don't mean to be rude or anything but I thought something went there, otherwise I screwed up mine lol :ooops:
Hope you're enjoying the build! :cheers2:

LOL ya, there was... good eyes... too bad mine aren't that great. It was freaking TINY! When I was bending it, it literally fell apart in my hands into 4 even tinier pieces... so, I scrapped it. I didn't think anyone would notice

thanks... :bash: ;)

Other than that - it was a pretty awesome build. Decided to put the shovel on it as well, hope that's OK with you  :nena:

Keep your Optics in the Green or Bluish tint... not so much red ! as they are legacy vehicles and were not
equipped with Anti Laser coating ! IIRC ?

:cheers2: :thumb1:

hahaha, ok. I just bought some Tamiya Clear Red to mix with the blue LOL :violin:
thanks for the heads up. I'm gonna spray all the optics with clear blue tonight, and then mask them when dry, attach, then base coat/prime the model. Thanks for the heads up! :cheers2:

UPDATE TIME

So, to get started, I gave the scopes a coat of Tamiya Clear Blue, then sealed it with some Model Master Gloss.
Image
Image

Then... I completely forgot to take a photo of the Tamiya Flat Black base coat before the Tamiya White application...sorry!

The black base coat is allowing for some awesome shading and depth. Sadly, I ran out of white paint and can't pick up anymore until Tuesday - It'll probably need 1 or 2 more coats of White before I'm satisfied. Hope you like it, it's been a super fun and easy build so far!

Cheers :thumb2:
