Started this one the other night. Completely out of my comfort zone for sure, but wanted to build one since I drive one.

I wanted to build this kit because I drive one - a '12, and here it is....tada!

UPDATE #1

This bad boy is going together quite nicely. Not being a car modeler, this is a great learning build for me.

I have it to a point where the body needs its paint job. I am thinking of one of the prismatic Alclad II colors. This has yet to be gotten, so it awaits further developments at the moment.

First thing was to tackle the interior.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Interior detailed and decaled

Image

Now for the chassis, suspension and exhaust.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Ready to paint the undercarriage

Image

Done!

Image

Now for the suspension and exhaust

Image

Image

Image

Yes - the green was a special mixture call out - equal parts silver and green.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Rear end done.

Image

Front end

Image

Image

Image

Exhaust installed and with a little help from clip pressure holding it all together, it's starting to look the part.

Image

Image

Image

Image

The front wheels actually turn!

Image

Image

Chassis and interior - done

Image

Now for the fancy wheels and rubber tires - yes rubber tires.

Image

Rubber is on!

Image

Image

Image

Ah yes...really need that body to bring it all together now.

Image

Until the next update - keep modeling and having FUN doing it.

Nice. You've done a great job on the wheels as the rim must be only a millimeter or two wide.

Also what paint did you use for the interior?
My semi-gloss blacks never come out so realistic. They are either too shiny or not shiny enough!

Looks like you accidentally made a Kubelwagen!

Nice job though! :cheers2:

:cheers2: That's an awesome racer! Mine will be stock box build though doing one like that would be fun...much scratch building. Thanks!

OK...it's time for the final update.

Really a neat kit. Excellent detail, crisply molded parts, in multiple types of styrene and colors, chromed to soft black, nicely done. Highly recommended for a fun build with plenty to satisfy those from other than an automobile background. Kit fit was tight and accurate and represent the auto well.

Learned quite a bit from this build too. Clear parts need to be handled differently next time for sure.

So, without further ado, Tada.....

With the interior tub like thing finished...the body.

Very...white.

First, primer got away from me and it got waaay too thick. Fine, let it dry and sand it down.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Color coat.

Thought this would look great.

Image

And I was right!

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

And a black two-tone, but a metallic black!

Image

After the platinum had fully cured and with some careful masking...get on with it already!

Image

Image

Image

After getting the look I wanted, I clear coated and allowed it to fully cure.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Nice detail! Glossed in metallic black as well and clear coated.

Image

Image

Hand painted black body ground effects.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Really pops!

Trim details on...

And the final assembly. I know, quite a jump, but I was on a roll and didn't capture it all, my apologies.

In it's final appearance.

A very close facsimile.

Thanks for looking.
