Global Scale Modeller

Thought I'd show a build I've got going on at the moment, its Dragon's 1/35 T-34/76 1941 model.

I wanted a non-German build for something different, i just finished my Hobby Boss Waterschlepper:



And thought, yep this'll do. Consequently Ive bought some Tasca Shermans and Italeri Staghounds to diversify!

Very easy assembly, as Dragon kits go, I had only two problems, both my own knuckledheadness. First, I lost the PE straps for the engine vent and 2nd I put the idler arms for the wheels on back to front...


Here it is before priming:


I'm going for the bottom suggested camo pattern:



Here it is primed, along with my "stealth" F-15 eggplane and a Tamiya 1/35 Panzer IV Ausf H (I like to build at least two kits at once):



Ive "preshaded" or shadowed over the olive drab primer (AK interactive) to start some basic modulation...and here's where I am now:







The camera really isnt picking up the contrast difference between panels and so forth, I really dialed it up from my normal shading/fading technique, I'll try to take some better piccies soon.

Looks marvelous Chris. I'll be following this with interest as I seem to be in a 'Soviet-mode' right now and a T-34 is on my short list for future projects. Looking forward to your updates.

Got a bit more done today, after I finished the egg plane.

Painted the exhausts and guns on the tank, and separately the wheels, coat of future in the morning.

Then in the evening I put on the decals - these were very thin! The star marking at the front went on just ok, but the original ones for the back didnt and came apart. I chose another from the fairly extensive decal set and even one of those came apart a bit - might have used a bit too much Microsol?



Doesnt matter since I'll represent this as some chipped paint/wear and tear.



Next stage is some basic chipping and then some filters - and while they go off I'll weather the tracks. Wont get much done today I babysit on Thursdays!!! Damn wife wanting to interfere with my modelling by going to work!

Looks the buisness Chris I like the preshading and the photographs turned out well on my tablet, I must look into Russian tanks, but for now im enjoying this build

small update, base coated the tracks (XF54) instead of the usual Panzer Grey:



And then hit it with 3 colors, first NATO Brown, then some Flat Earth and a whisker of Khaki.





It does look a bit "pastelly" but with some AK Track wash it should come out okay to what I want - dried spring mud - I think. Not sure!

Chipping comes next if i get some time off tonight. Thanks for looking!

Another quick update I was able to put a wash on the tracks last night, then do sludge wash, pin wash and first filter on the tank after doing the 1st round of chipping (ended up using Tamiya Dark Iron, tried Panzer Grey but doesnt work against the olive green):


Having problems with silvering decals and the paint is crazing/cracking as well, I dont think I sealed the gloss coat properly.....bugger


The vinyl tracks behind are my for Panzer IV:


And an in between jobbie - the Airfix 1/72 Photorecce Spitfire, all primed ready for paint - I built the exact kit as my first ever model, so hoping to compare the two when finished, see how far I've come:

Did a bit of quick mud work today - this will be the first "old" layer, as well as oil/fuel. I'll then predust and then do a second layer of new mud, trying to depict a spring mud situation (and also to hide the crazed paint and silvered decals).

Im a bit heavy handed with mud (and had to do this fast as my kids were asleep and had a small window while babysitting!)







I used AK's Kursk Earth and Dark Earth washes plus some Mig mud/dark earth pigments fixed with Lifecolor thinner.

I'll predust with the usual light mix of Tamiya Buff and Flat Earth before doing a wet style mud.

BTW while I lost my mojo I started building these two cheapie Academy kits:

1/48 Bearcat and Me-109K4





Quick and simple OOB cockpits, and then buttoned up:



I got the 109 construction finished today, suprisingly good fit for Academy (no filler need on wing root, only some on rear).

Also finished my 1/72 PR Spitfire, just needs a flat coat and masks removed.



Unfortunately I'll be working a double shift for the next two weeks so my modelling time will be curtailed (I model while working, but not when ive got two gigs on!) so wont be much updates for awhile..

I'll call this T-34/76 99% done (just need to add an antenna and the lights, final pigments) experimented with some mud and other effects including using future/clear for freshish mud.

I was hoping to only do a light dusting with this one, but the crazed paint and me stuffing up the decals meant mud is my friend:











I used some Mig/AK dark earth and mud pigments, fixed with Lifecolor thinners, then sprayed over some Ultimate Light dirt wash. Let that dry and scrub off most of it, then spray over with Ultimate dark wash, with a mix of future/clear on some bits to replicate freshish mud. I might add a bit more thicker mix especially on the back plate as this has dryed without gloss.

Almost there....Im interested in doing another Russian subject, maybe the BT-7 or the T-34/85 in the future, but back to German stuff after this!

I'm glad you screwed up with the paint and decals, because that mud effect looks the dogs mate! Fabulous job
