USS Kentucky 1/350 Star Trek Loknar Class Frigate

I am starting a new project for Wonder Fest at the end of May. I wanted to do a Star Trek build, but could not decide which ship I wanted to build. With so many kits out there I wanted to do something different. I started looking at doing a non-cannon subject. I remembered a FASA Star ship Combat simulator game I got will in high school. With the game were miniatures that could be purchased separately. Along with ships from the television show and the movies were non-cannon ships that were desined for the game. One ship that I liked was the Loknar Class frigate. After a little research on the many web sites for Star Trek I found a refit version of the Loknar. This version brought the design up to the movie versions time period.

I started with the Polar Lights/Round2 Enterprise refit, this is the movie version. This kit sells for around $70 and I was able to get it for $30. This makes it a little easier to cut it up. The kit is huge around 3' in length, and about 16" wide. For this design there will be over half the model not used, I guess I could put it back on ebay.

The first thing was to map out where material needed to be removed. The primary hull ( the saucer) has panel lines in the top and bottom and made it easy to find where I would need to cut.

Now it's time to pull out the Dremel and start cutting. I cut about 1/8 of an inch from the seam, this way I can file and sand to the line of the parts be converted.
