Mark's entry for the D-Day gb

Post by MarkVerploeg »

hello modelling peoples
here is the reveal of my entry in this gb
i'm glad that i made it in time as this was a bit more work then i expected
both the kits i used are very good kits and the flakpanzer is on sale at some shops (for the last 6 months really)
the ambulance has a few mistakes in the instructions but i tried to mark all of them in the build thread for those who would like to build one of their own
the base is pretty basic as i wanted but the wall has taken up a lot more time then planned
but i a rambling on :o
here is are the pictures
Image
the front view

Image
the medic helping the wounded infantrymen

Image
the wounded tankcrew members

Image
the other medic helping a wounded soldier and on the right the mg gunner saying his good bye to his fallen comrade

Image
a look at the ambulance

Image
the flakpanzer crew watching at what happens in the field next to them
i did found out that these flakcrews where not allowed to help other units while they where on the front
because the allied forces had a lot of planes over Normandy the crews needed to be on their vehicles at all times in case a typhoon or other attack plane appeared on the horizon

Image
the flakpanzer crew
i placed 4 helmets on the vehicle
open top vehicles offered less protection to the crew so unlike closed vehicles the received steel helmets but it was their own choise to wear them ofcourse

Image
a side view

Image
top view of the flakpanzer

Image
the moving suspension has driven me to madness during the build but i like the effect now when it is on the dio

Image
the birds eye view

Image
satalite view
brought to you by google earth WWII edition

so i hope you guys like it as it was a fun build for me and i think the result is pretty good
really when i compare it to my older dio's , so i know my skills are improving
thanks for watching
cheers Mark

Amazing work, all of it. Very moving scene, also.
The machine gunner standing next to his fallen comrade is the most moving part of the diorama; it's one of those "scenes within a scene" that really catches the viewer's eye.
Superb work! :bow:: :bow:: :th:

Awesome result mark
You can look at it a long time, and still see new things. And, what I think is very important, very realistic.

The grass you used, is it something you can buy or did you make it yourself? Because I have never seen so realistic grass in the shops I go to.

Again, beautiful work. :bow::

Thanks guys
Your comments are much appreciated
And Peppie the grass is from the company Noch
They make all kinds of railroad stuff
i used summer grass and dark grass mixed together with about 70% summer grass and 30 % dark
But i got a small shacker bottle for the grass also by noch it helps to get the grass a bit more upright when you apply it
They have a sort of grass cannon aswell but that is well over 100 euro's and the shaker 10 euro so i went for the cheap way

That's first rate work Mark. If you do that with your 1/16 tiger we'll all just retire and watch you build from now on.
