Italeri, 1:35 Panzerwerfer 42 Auf Maultier. (Halftrack SIG)

Post by Russ72 »

Hey guys, this is my contribution to the Halftrack SIG FokkerDXXI and Romerhys are hosting.

Image

Image

Image

This is a 1994 kit, parts are very clean (no flash or burring), it comes with an engine and interior detail. Engine bay, rear and top doors can be modelled in the open or closed positions and the kit caters for two finishing options, Russian Front 1944 and Western Front 1945.

Image

Vinyl tracks and wheels are provided.

First update to follow soon.

Cheers, Russ.

Very Cool. 157 parts....! This one totals out at 107. I'm considering winter camo, as I have figures that I can use to go with it. Still not sure yet.

So, I started this kit on August 21st? The day after the SIG began anyway. I've just been very slack in starting the thread. Here's the progress so far, up to stage 4 on the instructions.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Once stage 5 is complete i'll be painting the chassis and engine as one piece, and bogie wheels etc as separate for now. The way the kit goes together, I can paint and build all this up to near completion and add the completed hull at the last.

The sprue map at the start of the instructions is some what handy with this kit, as the sprues themselves are not numbered. The tabs are there for the numbers but the numbers must have fallen off.

Cheers, Russ.

As it stands on Sunday night. The running gear is all assembled and undercoated, the chassis has been undercoated and painted with a 40/60 mix of Italeri Chocolate Brown and Flat Gun Metal. From there I think i'm going to hairspray then Dark Yellow and wear back, then paint the engine and exhaust etc.. The front wheels are rubber, and the rims are just press fit at the moment, the bogies are friction fit as well. I think i'll treat them the same as the rest of the chassis.

Image

Image

The insides of the top and lower halves of the hull have been undercoated with Vellejo Light Grey. Next is to paint the engine bay, and then decide how I want to proceed with painting the interior.

Image

Image

And a quick look at what it might look like.

Is it just me or does the running gear look the same as the British Universal Carrier?

Cheers fellas, thanks for the comments. :cheers2:

@Unit 53.

Looking into it, there was 2 different types of Panzerwerfer. The 15 cm Panzerwerfer 42 auf Selbstfahrlafette and the 15 cm Panzerwerfer 42 auf Schwerer Wehrmachtsschlepper, two diferent chassis types.

So this subject (Selbstfahrlafette) is based on the Opel Maultier, an Opel Blitz chassis converted to a half track. According to my friend Wiki, it sported a Carden Lloyd type suspension with some Panzer 1 tracks and parts. The Carden Lloyd suspension was similar to that used by the Universal and Bren-gun carriers.

Oh no......I learn't something.......to the TV.

No hairspray. The green and brown were sprayed over the dark yellow, and then highlighted by mixing a little bit of the dark yellow back into the green and brown. The chipping is a sponged on combo of black, and dark brown with a little gun metal mixed in.

Hey there folks. Calling this one done...... for now. I was looking at doing a vignette but that'd be down the track somewhere.

Image

Image

Image

It could receive some more pigment work, that'll wait until based. When I put on the final Matt coat it frosted, which was a bit annoying, it was the second kit I did that morning and the first one came out fine.

And just because. Here's a little guy I was doing at the same time but didn't get a build thread of its very own.

Cheers, Russ.

It's not a bad kit, very simple, a lot could be done to it. I know where I can get another one, and probably will so I can do a Winter Version. Engine bay doors could be positioned open as well, side stowage doors are moulded shut so would take a little bit of work. Here's some pics I worked off.

Cheers Mate. They both got some experimental treatment. On the Marder the hairspray got a workout, under the basecoat of Dark Yellow and under the Brown camo stripes. It's always fun to have a play.
