Eduard 1/48 FW190D-9

I started this about two weeks ago to have something to do before the Vietnam GB. I had the cockpit, wheel wells and the guns and back of the engine painted last weekend. But I didn't like how it came out, so I stripped the paint from all the parts and redid it. There are some strange fit problems with the kit, like the upper half of the right wing so it will need some filler and maybe some styrene sheets to fix it.













The PE for the cockpit is a bit on the blue side (not as blue as it looks in the pictures) and I still need to do a bit of detail painting on some parts.

looks good so far i have been contemplating whether or not to get this kit for a while! its a bit strange with the photo etch being that blue! was it in the kit?

Thanks, yea the PE is the ones in the kit.

Have done some more work, the wings and fuselage is together. The fit on some parts was not that good and needed a bit of work. Next up will be re scribing the panel lines and try to get some of the rivets back that has been sanded away.

This is turning in to a build for testing some products, paints and techniques so it's not as good as it could be. But it's nice to just build something and not worry too much about if it's perfect or 100% correct. Have gotten all the painting and decals done. I started with some Ammo grey primer followed by Alclad black and airframe aluminium, the for the colors I gave the Akan paints a go, three words: I love them! They went on really nice and easy, I did all the painting freehand so some of the edges might be a bit soft. Also got all the decals done so next up is a coat of clear and some weathering.

peppie: I haven't added the MG cover as I plan on having it open and you can't fit the cover if the MGs are in place. So the tape is there to mask the MGs and interior.

I have gotten most of the weathering done. Gave it a coat of Aqua gloss followed by some Ultimate Dark dirt and a few AK washes and pigments. To finished it off I added a coat of flat clear, but as the bottom of the wings are NMF I didn't wanted to put flat on them as it would look to much like a silver paint. So I masked off the metal part before the clear, problem was that after doing the left wing I ran out of my roll of Tamiya tape. I knew I was running out and had bought a new roll at my LHS, it looks the same as Tamiya and feels like it as well but it's not the same. It's a bit stronger and I managed to rip parts of the cross on the right wing. After looking through my decal stash and not finding any of the same size I decided to paint it instead. I think it turned out fairly good, I still need to add some of the fat clear to get the same sheen to the whole cross. Next up is to do the final details and it's done.

Can't wait to see this coming together mate! I love the Long Nose Focke-Wulfs! They are just so much more elegant than the short stubby nose ones . Keep it up!
