Hello with a question.

Post by matty88 »

Hello, Matt here from Sydney Australia. I've been modeling know for about a year, really enjoying it but still only learning. So my intro post is also a question, no really a call for help. I have just recently attempted to prime an me109 with mr primer 1000. The primer doesn't spray well it just curdles. The one time I got it to Spray, the paint peeled away when I started to mask for paint. Im a little lost, Ive read it doesn't need thinning and others say it does. I have tried both thinning (about 60/40) and straight, with no real luck. Any assistance would be fantastic, and really appreciated. This place is a great read and I've learnt so much since finding this site. Great work!!!
Thanks Matt

:welcome: to ISM. In answer to your primer issues, Mr Surfacer comes in two forms one is in a jar and is meant for brush application to fill join lines and blemishes, the second is in a spray can and this is intended for use as a primer. From your description I am guessing you have the jar version and are using it through an airbrush?

Welcome to ISM Matt.... :)

What Dave said above. Plus, get yourself some AK, Vallejo or Tamiya primer for best results :th:

Hey Matty,
Welcome aboard bud.
It's possible to spray the bottled stuff but you have to thin it 50/50 with lacquer thinner. It's very toxic and not really a great primer when used this way. The jar stuff is meant more as a filler than a primer.
The aerosol can version is the actual primer and it's really good stuff, though toxic as hell.
There are less deadly primers out there, but the downside to those is that they are less effective. It's the deadly crap that makes it stick so well.
The alternative primers that the other fellas listed are superb and you should really consider using some of those buddy.
