Hillbilly's Dragon initial Tiger #100

Post by Hillbilly »

Alright, this build is finally complete! For the last two weeks I have had almost zero modeling time but there was no way I wasn't going to finish this build in time. There were several things i would have liked to have done differently but unfortunately time didn't allow it.There were a lot of firsts for me in this build,my first Tiger, first serious attempt at figure painting and first dio attempt. But to me that is what modeling is all about, stepping out of your comfort-zone and expanding your skill-set.This has by far been the most enjoyable build since coming over to the military side of modeling.I would like to thank Devon & James for putting on this awesome SiG,Paul and Lee for building the best modeling forum on the net and most of all Mike for for all of the time and effort you put into helping and growing the modeling community  I honestly believe this build wouldn't look half as good as it does without the tips and tricks I have learned from watching your build and how-to videos. This also applies to all the talented builders here on ISM who have answered all of my "noob" questions. :cheers2: Anyway, enough blathering, here is the story behind this build and pics.

This build is representing Tiger #100 of s.Pz.Abt.502 in the area of Mga south west of Saint Petersburg,Russia in the winter of 1942.This tank eventually ended up stuck in a peat bog and captured by the Russians intact on Jan.18 1943 and displayed in Gorky park with other captured German armor and aircraft.

Here is Georgy Zhukov inspecting Tiger #100 in Gorky park.

And here is Stalin inspecting Tiger #100 and other captured German armor.

This is a pic of #100 in the winter of 42'-43'

The story of this dio is that #100 and crew are in a bivouac area in early winter 1942,the first light snow of the year has fallen and the crew has set about applying the winter white-wash camo.

That's a superb dio Steve, tells a great story. Especially love the colour of the Tiger, looks suitably grubby - spot on! For your first dio and figures, you're a natural, it looks fantastic. Great detail with plenty to look at (especially love the drips of paint on the hull! :th: ) and brilliantly painted! :cheers2:

If I didn't know better, in your first pic, I could have sworn that one fella is giving the other one a wedgie!! :eeek:

Well done mate, top work!!

Nice one! Great composition and feel with the whitewash being applied as the ground begins to get the first dusting of snow!

Aye foremost in danger, right onward they go
They have but one object, and that is the foe!
