International Scale Modeller is a forward thinking forum and will be continuing to evolve as we grow and as such welcome all suggestions and critiques to enable us to progress as we expand.

Please feel free to leave any feedback (good or bad) about your experience on ISM forums. Also any suggestions that you'd like to see implemented on International Scale Modeller.

Hi Lee. I was wondering if you are thinking of having a beginners area or just keeping all areas open to beginner questions. I personally love the idea of not having a specific area as then it gets confusing as to if the question warrants going into the beginner section or topic specific.

Hi jim

I don't think we need a specific beginners area, like you say if we put all the relevant threads in the relevant sections it makes it a lot easier to find.

I'm planning on doing a complete aircraft build, but rather than one video (or several small parts on the whole build) I plan to break it down into different sections, from building and painting cockpits, masking to airbrushing showing how I do each step and that video will go in the relevant section.

Hi Jim - I'll just reiterate what Paul said. Don't think there's a need for a beginners area as all questions are going to be relevant and you want the experienced guys helping the newcomers to the hobby

Ah don't worry about me jim

I think one thing to say is that no matter how long you have been modellers you still learn something new, be it a technique or new tool to use etc so I guess we never stop being beginners as such really, what we can focus on is guides to help true beginners, this is stuff I found difficult to get on with when I got back to the hobby. Hopefully with various video guides and members help we can make this place one of, if not the best modelling resource/forum out there

Just to let you guys know that I am happy to be of any help I can be if you have any questions on how to go about running a forum. I don't know your backgrounds, so perhaps you have done something similar before, I don't know. I am a current moderator, and effectively a founding member as well of a wargaming forum (The Ammobunker) which has been going for years now and has over 2k members.

So just offering my experience should you guys have any questions etc, especially in these early days.

I also own and admin an airgun clubs forum, i was a founder member of the club 5 years ago and have been running the forum with a good group of admin and mods for that time now.

Wow . . . I love it! I was wondering if there might be a category for model show galleries, such as Euromilitaire and some of the national/regional IPMS shows? I know Finescale magazine has dropped publishing their Great Models annual and I haven't seen euromilitaire this year

I myself always take a lot of pics when I attend the shows, and it is always a pleasure to show them to other modelers. Just a thought.

Hello all.

I may of mist it like I do most things (at times) but maybe a review page could be added?

By reviews I mean kits new and old from all manufactures on any scale and put them on as sprue shots and a basic out line of how the kits looks and feedback can be us that may have built them in the past?

I think it should be made basic and issues like accuracey and how many rivets it hasn't got should be kept to a minimum.

And also extened it to aftermarket stuff, decals, tools, paints and all sorts of odds and ends?

That's a good idea Lenny. Problem is Paul and I just don't have the time to run a forum like that as it would involve much work!

We'd definitely be willing to set one up if some one else (you maybe?) would want to take responsibility for it and run it for IMS

I'm not sure if im reading it different to you mate but I think Lenny means a review section everyone can add to, not just me and you.

I think all it needs is a model section adding to the reference category, as we have places for tools and paints etc so reviews can go in there.

Sorry fellas I don't think I wrote it clearly

If we treated the review part the same as the galleries then the guys here could just post a few words about the kit and show sprue shots internal and external, decals and instructions etc.

It could be any kit from any manufacture, old/new, aircraft to si-fi.

Put it all in one pot to save space and confusion.

Hope that makes a bit more sence

As it is at the moment Phil, organised by genre. We thought it better to put everyone's in the same section so everyone can see it, makes it harder to overlook as well

Yeah the more I think about it the more sense it makes, like, if I need advice on a particular model then I can just go to that thread and see how everyone else has done it. Yes, definitely better; ignore me, I'm crazy. (I have the paperwork to prove it!)

Excellent site here, nice and friendly, no Soviet style dictatorship rules to follow bye either.
There is one small thing I would like to mention about, that is to have a log about the current project that then follows onto the next project and on and on, so you could comment and refer to the work on the bench which could be covering several builds going on at the same time, to save on any confusion when in a single build thread.
You could go into each build in detail in the single threads and use the 'log' as a general background and a place to store ideas and comments in?

What about a log for the members, something along the lines of a work in progress like what Phil was mentioning. It would be much easier to go about a multi kit build that way, say for instance building the Luftwaffe airfield diorama base from Airfix, it has a truck, a gun, a plane, figures, and is a diorama type build. It would be easier to log these all together rather than a individual plane build, truck build, figures painted.

Been on this a week now myself, what a nice bunch of people... Many thanks to those who have answered my questions and yes the help worked
Now that I can post pictures I can start sharing my work and start looking forward to comments, good or bad are ok as modelling is a pursuit of perfection as far as I am concerned and after 40 odd years I still am not 100% there, maybe 75 (sometimes) but you guys will let me know

I've seen pictures and now a video (Paul's) of some of the workshops of the many crafty folks on the site, as well as a great many of the products of the labs of evil genius'.
I have noticed that there are very few pictures of how anyone displays anything.
Shelving? Display cabinets? Donated to museums? Etc.
Myself, I had a series of cheap wood and metal shelves mounted on the wall in the office that I was using before I moved into my house.
My new hobby room is... undecided... most likely I will have a carpenter buddy of mine mill out some MDF shelves that I'll mount on the wall. (He said that he'll do it if I build him an under-construction Death Star that he's got kicking around)
My wife will turn my man parts into spaghetti sauce if she sees one of my creations outside the cave.
She's tolerant enough of my hobby to let me have my shop of horrors, but that's where that stops.

Can't say that I've used it. But I find it really annoying when you google something and it spouts off 'this avail on tapa... ' it's sooo intrusive! I only go online with iPhone, iPad or PS3, and don't have any probs using the forum. (Apart from the boing boing funny swear filter ((sorry))! Just my two pennoth.

How about a display gallery for finished work, similar but separate from members portfolios? Like bunched up fighters on a 5 fighter stand, or the fighter pens with landed fighters. A chance for members to show their swarms of Messerschmitts, or dogfight doubles kits, or similar kits with display options.

I also have space issues on where to 'display' my projects, I do like to look at them, it helps to tell variants apart and get to know the features that makes identification possible for each machine. I would like to see how others go about displaying their work, I could pick up or share some ideas and tips.

I'm sorry, but there are just too many members. It's taking me a whole night to try and keep up with everyone's builds, it's addictive and stopping me from doing any actual building! I'd also like to complain about the copious amounts of hints and tips, I can't possibly be expected to take it all in, and then implement it all on my next build! You are all rotters and scoundrels of the highest order, I love it!

As an aside, would there be any way of letting emodels know we're ISM members when we buy from them? That way they could see their sponsorship is working. I for one have switched mainly from Hannants to emodels, just 'cos they're supporting this forum.

I speak to the owner of emodels (Peter) via email quite a lot.

When you fill out your order details there a little comment box, just write in there that you found them from ISM.

Quick suggestion here, was looking to see if there was a dedicated Decal part in the reference section to ask about something but don't see it, decaling is a fairly dark art in its own right in the hobby and one of my weak points for sure ... I realise too you could get bogged down in separate topics but perhaps this one could be relevant?

One more ... this is more a member fun one I see done annually on other forums where members get to vote for their kit of the year, it could be in category like overall kit, best aircraft, best armour and so on, obviously this could not take place until January but that's only just over 3.5 months away now ... just a thought.
