Tamiya 1/35 Jagdtiger Early Production

Post by stoves »

Finished this jagdtiger today. First time doing a camo scheme on a tank. It was done freehand as I don't have wide enough tape for masking. Weathered with Vallejo's weathering set for yellow/gray vehicles and tamiya's weather master sets.

It looks good. Freehand is the way to go of German WWII camo anyway, that's how the crews applied it in the field, they started with a yellow tank and sprayed on brown and green as best as they thought would match local conditions. Very few AFVs were factory camo'd and even fewer were done with stencils (someone has a photo of Hetzers that were done with the same stencil (or a OCD painter) so the lines would be "soft" on almost all the German AFVs.
Freehand is also more fun and less work. So it's win, win, win.

Its been tried and tested, it works! So don't blame the system if you're no good.

Personally I think freehand is best. I was in the army and when we painted the vehicles, we didn't mask them up - it was freehand so there was some run over on occasion.

Superb job. Lovely model.
