1/32 Kittyhawk Mk I, 112 Sqn , North Africa

Post by pmarshall »

Finished today, Hasegawa 1/32nd P-40E Kit, with Eduard Big Ed set and Barracuda Decals to do Clive Caudwells aircraft from 112 Sqn. Masked and sprayed the mouth rather than use the decals which never seem to fit properly.

Painted with Akan paints - horrible things, and replacement Gunze for the Middle Stone. Weathered with AK Oils and Pigments in a number of layers.

brilliant job, especially the sharks mouth :

weathering is spot-on, shame about the Akan paints, I really like them, however I must say that their Dark Earth is way too dark for me!

Excellent job!! Specially with that shark mouth. I have a question by the way, to my understanding the AVG (American Volunteer Group) in China only used the Shark mouth.I have seen lots of models of the P-40 in RAF and non AVG markings and include the shark mouth. Was every P-40 painted with a shark mouth as a trademark?

Brilliant work as always Peter!:
Shame about those AKAN Paints. They always spray well for me. They might be damaged in some way, or it's just a fail in the production.

112 Sqn copied the shark mouth from German me110s, and the AVG copied it from 112 Sqn, then everyone else copied it from them...

What a top drawer build!
That there is a beautiful P-40...
Overall fantastic but still want to say that the combined weathering effects are excellent!
