Dragon Saladin Armoured Car

Post by alextheblue »

There is a WIP thread for this build, but I haven't put a link to it as it is extremely brief. This is one of those kits where one minute I was sat looking at the box thinking, "I wonder what that will be like to build?", and the next , bingo, done! This is actually a Black Label kit, which I believe and please stop me if I'm wrong, is supposed to be their "budget" offerings. It's certainly scaled back from their full on Smart Kits, but the one thing they seemed to have forgotten to scale back on is the price. It's a little bit cheaper, but not a whole heap. The detail is stil very good, but slightly lacking in some areas, for example the optics in the vision ports are grey plastic rather than separate clear parts, but as they are very small it's no major issue. The kit goes together very well and the instructions are quite straightforward to follow.

Paint is all Tamiya, namely NATO green and black, dulled down with an earth wash and followed with a brown oil pin wash. Dirt is courtesy of MiG European earth pigments mixed with water and a couple of drops of VMC flat earth. I wanted to keep it a fairly clean vehicle so most of this is washed back leaving it mainly in the tracks of the tyres etc.

And bish, bash, bosh - it's done, which really only leaves the pics.

Would I recommend this kit? Yes......yes I would!

Thanks for taking a look! :th:

Looks really neat, the wash accentuated the detail just right, very subtle :)

You aren't the first to make the complaint about the discount kit without the discount price Alex.
It's why I haven't bought this kit actually. I know what's in the box and what the tag on the box says. They don't match up.
You did a wicked job building her though. She's awesome. Nice work on the paint and weathering.
So dispite Dragons failings you cleaned her up well.
Nice work.

Thanks Mike! :th: I did um and ah about buying this kit, and should really have protested by spending my cash elsewhere, but I really liked the subject. Those pesky manufacturers know that we are just weak and we have to get our plastic fix somehow! :ooops: :cheers2:

They get me all the time too buddy. I see what I need and buy it, doesn't matter what the price tag is. Unless it's an insane amount I'll probably buy it and build it.
That's why my stash is so small.
I only buy what I plan to build, and every build is mostly planned already.
I rarely impulse buy kits. When I do its one of the pricks of plastic that twisted my arm haha.
Rotten buggers.
