Is the AK FAQ book anygood?

Post by gazmat »

As it says in the title really guys....is it worth the £50 price tag, or can all the information been found on the net?...Can I justify spending the money, or would it be spent better elsewhere...any comments appreciated.

Well that depends if you have a spare £50 ? I have the revised edition, and I think the book is a great reference tool towards the different techniques. However some people may disagree, with today's wealth of Internet content available. However there are times when I cannot be bothered to trawl through pages of content online and would just prefer to look at a book at my desk.
It is filled with hundreds of pictures that are quite useful. However I would not call it essential! but more of a "tool" to work with, just like a good quality airbrush.

I agree with bradsbunker,

If you have the time to troll the internet, don't buy the book. However, I have been using it for two weeks now and I'm certain it has saved me a lot of time looking for a reliable process on the internet. I have found it to be a marvelous resource! It's good to have a manual for whatever it takes to build a model sitting on your work bench.

I've a conflicting opinion about this book.
I've the digital version and it's a good material to read. Is it worth the money? Not sure if you have the time to look in internet. At the same time the techniques described focus a lot on post-shading, while on the web I see lots of hints and material on pre-shading.
All in all I would by it, but digital, the paper version is too expensive for what really gives.

I would love to hear more opinions about these books since I'm considering buying them soon. If any of you guys that have bought and read them can write a few words about them I'd be very thankful.
