1/72 Bradley n whatever else I can think of...

Picked out the Dragon 1/72 Bradley for my GB. A nicely detailed kit and I've got some value gear stowage in my bits box too.

I've got some modern US figures on order and the germ of an idea for a dio..

Here's my progress so far...







I test fitted the halves together and realised there's a potential for a scratch built interior. I'm not going to attempt to create every last detail in 1/72, just enough to give shape to the shadows...

Here I'm seeing how the turret housing (I have no idea what the metal tube inside the tank is called) fits and how much space I have...



First I needed to clean up the interior and plug any holes...



And then layed the floor panels:



Plenty of test fitting:

Next the wheels:



This dragon kit comes with tiny polycaps!



Primed and preshaded the interior:



Base painted, highlighted and washed the interior. Not spending too much time on this and it won't be very visible:



Next I sealed up the model, undercoated preshaded and base painted:



Next a couple of highlghts:







Gloss coat, decals and an burnt umber + black oil wash:



Then clean off the oil washed on the exposed areas:



And here's where I'm up to. Needs another clean to get rid of more of the wash as these all look very clean in the pics I'm using for reference:

That looks the dogs! Some of these 1/72 armour kits look as good as 1/35. Nice work on the interior!

Bit of a snag while cleaning the wash off the turret...



Dusted inside the wheels before attaching the sides:

A quick test on a desert background showed it needed lightening up a bit. All it took was a subtle dry brush on the corners...





Happy with the Bradley for now. Will need in place weathering once it's on the dio. Speaking of which...

Next up was some fencing, I was trying to find something to use as 1/72 razor wire, and found the strands from my wire mesh make a pretty good substitute:









Need to tidy the glue when it's fully dry:

A lot has happened in the last few days...

These are the figures I'll be using:




And onto the next vehicle. An Academy 1/72 US 8x8 Cargo Truck:



I powered through the build and didn't take many photos







A really nice kit that went to gether with no issues. A few injector pin marks needed filling but that's about it:



Now onto painting. I followed pretty much the same path as for the Bradley. Grey undercoat, Black preshade, a dark sand basecoat, followed by a couple of lighter shade of sand getting me to here:



Next I gloss coated where the (thankfully few) decals go and applied the decals. Next I picked out the details such as the exhaust and added chipping with a sponge:



I didn't want to dirty it up to much so I gloss coated it and used a thin dark sienna oil wash:



And let it dry overnight. I then wiped off the majority of the wash with sansodor and cotton buds. I try to always wipe downwards to encourage a subtle streaking.





I let that dry and wiped even more off leaving me with:



I let that dry and then matt coated and drybrushed a bright highlight on exposed edges:



It's ready for final assembly now so first the glass goes in:



And the components glued together. I deliberately left the side windows out as these can be wound down:





I think we're going to need a bigger base...

It was a pretty quick build with no surprises.

Probably the last vehicle for this build. A Revell Humvee, now out of production

I did take photo's of the build but my camera seems to have had a senior moment. No surprises on the build. Here's what I got...

Started on the figures. A bit disappointed to find they are either too big for 1/72 or the vehicles are too small. Shame, as they're nice looking figures.

I'll still use 'em if they turn out ok...

Unpainted


Base coats. I did some tests with digicam and it simply doesn't show up at 1/72. You get a pretty uniform grey/green. I started with a black base coat and then a mix of Tamiya XF-76 (Grey Green (IJN) ) and white as a base coat and then added more white for a highlight



Next came a brown/black wash. Took a couple of applications:

So, after a couple of very dark brown pin washes I ended up with these:







They are a tiny bit overscale for the vehicles

They look closer to 1/65 or 1/70 than 72, but who cares? The paint work looks awesome and they tell the story.
