Airfix 1978 Me 109 F-4

Post by Nige201980 »

Hi Guys.

Image

Well this kit has been kicking about since last year when i did the Spit for my North Africa GB i did on YouTube. i was just going to crack on with it but at the time once looking at it i just couldn't be bothered. Then when i was putting the F-14 up i looked at the squadron on Harveys ceiling and noticed i only had two German aircraft up there a Tamiya Fw 190 and a Cyber Hobbies Me 110 so i knew i had to change that and this is the only german kit i have in the stash (the other two are American).

The kit was started after a fashion and here are the bits and bobs that are in the kit.

So the Plan is to up detail this kit where i can, re-scribe the fuselage has that has raised panel lines but the wings are recessed : but very little detail so i got some plans off the internet.

So hopefully I'll add rivets and panel lines where needed.

The 1st thing was to sort the cockpit canopy which was all one part so out with the saw and to chop it up.
Image

Now i can pose the cockpit open i need to sort out the head rest as it just too thick.
Image

So out with the pasticard and multiput for the cushion and there we are a new head rest.
Image

Sticking with the cockpit the gun sight is just terrible so i thought i'd try and make a new one. not that easy but here is what the part looks like.

And just one of my references of the gun sight.

Some of the parts im going to use

And what i managed to do.

Next job is sorting the wheel wells no detail in there at at.
Image

So with some plasticard i added ribs and the fabric covers on the side wall.

The guns and the cowling detail is rubbish so i need to sort that out. So out with my Wife's nail kit thing.
Image

So i drilled out the where the cannon was and set about making them a better looking shape.

So thats it for now guys ill be tinkering with on and off over the next few weeks.

Nice one Nige. Like the look of this. Great idea to stretch skills every now and again.

Good luck with your build mate.
