Mixing 1/35 and 1/32 Scale kits on a Dio

Post by GangsterNo1 »

I'm looking at doing a LRDG / SAS dio as a present for a mate, and wanted to do something with a wrecked German aircraft, normal Chevy truck and SAS jeep to depict one of the airfield raids they carried out. The problem is finding aircraft in 1/35 scale, there basically don't seem to be many and what there is aren't what I need. Has any got any experience of doing this? How big a difference is there really?

Thanks

This is the first thing that jumps into my mind to help:
Mr Coen did a really good diorama of star wars snow speeders in three different scales.
He used forced perspective to make them attack a walker in what looks like three waves

If you could do something like that, it could reduce the scale differences and work to your advantage...just a thought

I had been thinking of a number of planes, mainly Italian bombers, German fighters or German observation aircraft. Will have to have a look for the one you have. Cheers

The kit i mentionned is this one
Image
It even had the LDRG Chevrolet trucks in the background
I just noticed that bit by the way
It is not a very big plane either so maybe that can help out a bit as a bomber would be pretty big on a dio

Cheers for the advice Mark. Looks like the kit is available in Europe but not England so will see if I can justify the costs. Its adding up to be an expensive birthday present. May have to just build a fence and guard tower to show the perimeter of the airfield.

The Storch is a good little kit, and available in uk at not much money. Purchased one not that long ago. Would you be able to scratch build a burst out plane or something?

I've only found it in the UK for about £30 after a google search. That's way too much as I've spent £40 on the LRDG truck and jeep already. My scratch building skills are non-existent unfortunately.
