It may be too late as you've painted it - but I know of a youtuber who does chipping by putting a base coat, covering in hairspray and then painting with the proper coat. He then uses a toothbrush with water to make the chipping effect.

Here's his video (he has others)

I'm very impressed with that guy's painting technique. Not as detailed or as careful as others and yet he ends up with great results.

Beware though - I read on these forums somewhere yesterday that someone covered their model with hairspray and it reacted badly with his Vallejo paint.

I sprayed a Stug with black primer then Klear to varnish before spraying dark yellow and chipping using water and a toothbrush. Seemed to work fine for me. It was Vallejo primer and Tamiya acrylic for the yellow.
Its been tried and tested, it works! So don't blame the system if you're no good.

thanks i tried the hairspray technique before with great disaster.so i'm going to try painting the chipping with a sponge or brush ,the problem i have is that the model is now painted panzer grey so i'm thinking the only alternative now is to go with a rust color.

Try using a lighter grey to do the chips then put a little rust colour in the bigger chips , I used the hairspray technique with Vallejo and I was quite impressed with the end result , scraping with a toothpick and a toothbrush and it worked well for me

I found with vallejo and hairspray the trick is to build up the colour slowly, if you apply it "wet" you get a crazed effect to the paint.
John, whats on my bench? Usually a mess and a couple of different models a week.
