Mig production oil colors

Post by Anaga »

Hi guys

I just have a quick question. Can somebody tell me if is any difference between the MIG oil colors and the other brands? I can see on youtube videos and models magazines, many people uses them, but is any advantage? I could see is not many differences about cost (in some cases MIG could be cheaper...). I've never used oil colors and I like to start to do some tries.

Thanks

i us them all the time and they are top quality, you will have to spend almost double the price to get better oils imo, all the others i have used have loads of excess linseed oil in them

On the exact opposite side of the plate, I've never used migs oils because I've been using winsor Newton oils, pretty much since I got back into the hobby.
Never had any trouble... I'm also still using the same tubes... That's ten years now.
So cost isn't an issue for me. As for the linseed oil issue, I've never had trouble with the brand that I use.
I will sometimes lay out what I plan to use on a piece of paper towel or cardboard to remove any excess... But not always.

I guess that means it's up to you... Just don't buy cheap crap.

I use "Windsor-Newton" exclusively.........I would also recommend "Windsor-Newton" "Sansodor" (Low odor solvent) - well worth the bit of extra cost.
I used to do a lot of weathering in "N" scale Model RR'ing........I've had some of my tubes for 10 years+.
I always put some on a paper towel to leach the oil & have never found it to be excessive.

I use them all......and no problems here.....soak them on cardboard for 20/30 mins and dry with a hairdryer at the end to speed up the process !!
