UV Cure Glue

Post by Peter1512 »

Paul was using UV cure glue on his Great Wall Hobby F15 canopy, can anyone recommend a good glue to buy?

The uv glue works ok, but it never fully cures, i prefer the old tried and tested method of Micro scale krystal clear on the rear canopy and tamiya extra thin on the front. :cheers2:

Thanks Paul, I think I will stay with the traditional methods, by the way, I thoroughly enjoyed your Great Wall Hobby F15 build, I have ordered the kit
The problem is I used to be a fishing tackle tart and now I am a modelling tools and bits and bobs tart, you are costing me a fortune, every time you demonstrate something new I order it!
If they reclaim my house can I come and live with you?

I know the feeling peter, you can get uv glue from fishing tackle shops, apparently some carpers swear by it, i just prefer to tie a knot, far quicker, also dont forget pole float rubber tubing, ideal for hydraulic cables and available in sizes down to 0.3mm.
John, whats on my bench? Usually a mess and a couple of different models a week.
My motto? I'm not lazy, just energy efficient.

I have just remembered that I have some stuff called Bug Bond which is used for making the heads when tying trout flies, I also invested in a powerful UV torch
Bug Bond is a resin which is colourless and does not give off vapours, so could be good for canopies, I will have a go with it and report back, may not be for a while
I was very pleased to hear about Paul's happy event, my daughter is 41 and once they pass 40 children don't seem to be quite so much trouble!

Thanks Wookiee76 for the tip about pole float rubber tubing, I have never fancied pole fishing but they sell it in the tackle shops I use

That's kind of one of my "pet peeves" about modeling in general.............there always seems to be some new "gotta have it" to spend money on :(

The only real use I have found for the UV glue on clear parts is attaching PE to clear parts, like rearview canopy mirrors, or detail of the canopy edges.

Works great - I used it on the Eduard Yak-1b build - here -
