crushed DS tracks Dragon Tiger 1 kit 6608

Post by RichardT »

Hi,

I know this topic has been brought up over and over again - but I have to vent my spleen to my fellow modellers. :pistols:

Please can Dragon stop chucking their fragile DS tracks in the bottom of their model boxes without any protection.

Their kits cost enough anyhow and it would be nice NOT to be forced to have purchase after market tracks because theirs are damaged. :bash:
I would like the option anyway.

If Rye Field models can supply proper tracks why the hell can't Dragon.

I love the Dragon kits but what is happening not just to me but my fellow modellers is very disappointing.

Regards, :cheers2:

Yes you would think if they are going to continue going down this nasty road then they might spend 10 cents and insert them in there own little box in side the main kit.
AND they might consider offering them either as a stand alone kit or SIMPLY supply both in the kit. They are make me search for an alternative manufacturer as tracks are a major kit component and used to be a MAJOR selling point.......not any more.....RANT RANT !! :(

Man really? The last two Tigers I got had just slightly bent tracks.
On the bench:
Cyber-Hobby T-34 Under New Management
Cyber-Hobby Tiger I Kursk
Rye Field Tiger I w/ Interior
Academy T-34 with bed spring armor

Hi Adam and all,

Adam i've watched on youtube your kit reviews of 6608,6820,6730,6600 and 6383 and also your great review on tracks . I can honestly say this - of these 5 kits only my tracks with 6383 were undamaged and of the 4 other kits mentioned i have not had an undamaged set of tracks.Kit 6730 was the worst and kit 6820 was the best.

These kits are some of the finest ever produced in 1 35th scale so i have no dislike of Dragon as i have bought them all and will continue to buy their kits.

These kits are not cheap as 6600 and 6383 are now harder to find.I would now have to pay over £260 $370 for the 5 kits from the UK inc shipping.

I am just beginning to believe IT IS JUST A MATTER OF LUCK whether your tracks are in good shape or not.

What would be the case if we were talking about the hull or one piece turret ? (which by the way are fantastic). No one would buy their kits.
But with tracks Dragon know there are plenty of aftermarket options.

All i am saying is Dragon need to look at what RF are doing and provide similar tracks without increasing their cost, or at least keep the DS formula similar to kit 6700 or 6383.

That's all i am going to say on this matter - unless i get future DS tracks which look like they have been through a tumble dryer - in which case i'll post pics on the forum to prove my point.

All the best,
Richard

This kind of thing is why I have been very tentative about buying dragon kit's. But my local (if you call 120 miles round trip local) shop had a sale last week and I bought my first 3 Dragon kits. Dak Panzer3. Wittmann's command Tiger and the Panzer 1 Sig33 Bison. I must admit the Sig33 has me very intimidated and after finding Adam's video on it now even more so. Back to the main reason for my reply, The DS tracks in the Tiger are crushed lol.....

I agree about the crushed DS tracks And am very unhappy with Dragon lately. They are duping their customer by taking shortcuts. They are pulling the goodies out of their kits and charging the same or more. Personally I think their DS tracks have their place. But to do away with the Magic Tracks is very disappointing. No more metal barrels and very little photo etch if any. I am not buying any of their new kits because of what they are doing. They are going the way of Tamiya armor.

Funny, when I originally ordered the 6608 in September it was with magic tracks. Back in December I was notified that the kit was ready to ship but my credit card had expired, (it actually expired in October). I do not like DS tracks as I find them very unrealistic. not sure if I will buy this kit, I have done several Meng kits and I love them, especially the T-10M. Absolutely brilliant.

Every dragon tiger kit that I've bought recently, that has the DS tracks without the cardboard sleeve, has been damaged.
One or two were still serviceable but the rest were pretty much trashed. That's at least four or five now.
I still have one on the way that I fully expect to also have damaged tracks.
I've replaced all of those with new ones from dragon... That came in a plastic bag and wrapped in bubble wrap.
As you can imagine, they were also damaged.
The old DS tracks were both far tougher and came packed in a nice protective cardboard sleeve, I've complained several times to the customer care folks in Asia but they insist that nothing is wrong and nothing will be changed. They've even suggested that I may have mishandled the tracks in some way, but they were still happy to replace them free of charge.
I have no problems with the DS tracks, the old ones or the new ones.
They're easy to use, take paint well, glue very well, and you can easily apply sag with a couple of pins.
AllI I ask is that they pack the damned things properly like they used to.

Reason #56 to run through the Dragon head office kicking everyone you meet in the groin.

You guys want to crowdfund me a plane ticket to Hong Kong?

I agree with 90% of what you say.....I will still buy Dragon, but only after being more vigilant in my research. If there is another company doing same kit I will definitely give them more consideration after all a set of replacement tracks can cost as much as the kit.
