Well I am just coming back to the bench after almost a decade of being lost. I'll be 52 next month and decided I really need to get back to something that really relaxes me.

I primarily am interested in Clipper Ships and antique cars (1950 and earlier). But I'll build anything scale model. I was lucky enough to happen across a bundle of models at a thrift store a couple of years ago. I will be making a website and posting all that I got. Essentially though I got about 3k worth of models for 100.00US. Woo Hoo Score one for me.

I'm by no means a master modeler and will be starting off with the basics since it's been so long. Things have changed in the last 15 years so I have a git to catch up on. First on my list is to get a new compressor and airbrush. Going for a dual action. I hear so much good about them.

Also going to start working with acrylics instead of enamel. Any suggestions on brands would be helpful, even though I know that is a subjective to the persons bias.

I hope I can learn a lot and contribute to the forum.

Hi and welcome to ISM! As you say everyone has a preference for their acrylic of choice but some of the major players are Tamiya, Vallejo and Gunze Aqeous just to get you in the ball park. If you want to stick strictly to acrylics then for metal paints Vallejo have just brought out a range of acrylic metals that are very good. Non acrylic the Alclad II range are excellent and personally I rate Gunze Mr Metal highly. You will also want to be investing in varnish for spraying. For gloss Alclad Aqua Gloss is very popular at the moment with Alclad Matte or Testors Dullcote for matt.

There are of course many other perfectly good paints around.

Thanks a mil! Dave. From my research Tamiya and Vellejo were the top two. I haven't run across Gunze and will look into them. I'll be doing both Acrylic and enamel. Anyway, I am excited. First up on the hit parade is putting the man cave back together. A little 10x12 shed. Already insulated so, just need to paint the walls and get the bench and shelves into place. Will post pics later. Probably another 2 or 3 weeks.
