Easter eggs presents (even to oneself) come in all shapes and sizes..... but I can’t say I've ever seen one with a power cord, an air pressure gauge and a long airline hose on it before!!! Happy ‘maiden voyage’ with the new ‘huffer ’n puffer’, Mike. And a very Happy (and chocolate-laden) Easter to all ISM-ers, too! Have a great one!

Though the Easter bunny gives my house a miss every year (much to my children's chagrin), I'm always good for presents
I did pay for this one myself ... But goodies are goodies.



Today was a wonderful quiet day about the hoose. The schools were closed so the kids were outside with mom playing most of the day. That left me at the bench, paint brush in hand.

I hit both with some dark dirt and started the clean up.




































Next is a flat coat and some work with oils.

I've just finished the work with the oils. Late nit tonight for me... 1am.
Watching the great escape and doing the rust work n the Nashorn.
It's the anniversary this week so I thought it was a good idea. Great film for all its flaws.

I started with a few rust streaks and a bit of grime here and there, mostly raw sienna and burnt umber oils mixed together.









Then I took an HB pencil and a bit of Mig Ammo gunmetal and did a bit of work on the bare metal.



Next it's pigments and the mud.

Outstanding weathering there Mike, so far it looks like it will be one of your best pieces. Love soft skin vehicles like trucks a lot, great to see one built here.

I finished off the Nashorn to the point where she's ready for dirt, dust and mud now.
Added the last bit of shine to the wheels with an HB pencil...





Then I started work on the diorama.
I removed the house and added a bit more rubble, I'll be adding more later, once the base colours are about to go in.





I also started work on the little stove ... Now a big stove... Inside the house.





Made from noise makers believe it or not....







Mr Surfacer to add the iron texture...





I'll be priming the whole works in a few hours... Hopfully.

Yeah it does, funny thing is that I like the smells, Weird. Anyway, Unique ideal coen, you just helped some who need a stove for a dio. The rubble and ground work looks awesome.

Just caught back up with this build Mike holy sh1t mate you've been busy where do I start with this!! Them tiles are awesome!! The scratch built house is amazing. Then there's the armour and truck. Your composition for this dio is ace!! A hide location inside a building.

I started work on the figures this morning... Not a lot to report though.

Base colours are on and the details are done... ish.
Next is a gloss coat and some washes, then some drybrushing and some pigments.




This fella isn't much to look at.
Good thing he's goin in the truck where no one will see him.




Speaking of trucks, I got some work done on it as well. Mostly just assembly of the sub-assemblies.
Next I'll so some grease and oil stains then it's time for the mud and dirt.



The doors completely didn't fit so I'll have to leave them open. I also forgot to paint the inside edges of the glass. I'll have to see if I can get some wash in there to hide it.

That truck does look bloody great Mike! Love the colour scheme and camo on it. You've done it to look battered and had a hard life mate

Like the detail in the snow suits, you can just see the camo on the reverse side. Well done buddy.

Today I added a dark dirt wash to the Nashorn figs, followed by a Dullcote, then a dryburshing of some, flat white to tone down the contrast.




Then I added some pigments for the dirt.









Then they were installed in the vehicle. I still need to paint and install the ammo, so the two loaders are stuck in with blue tac for now.








All of my Vallejo metal paints have spoiled so I ordered some true metals to see what they're like. I got some cheap, so I thought that I'd give them a whirl.

Next I did a quick mock up to see what fits where best and to see how the colours will balance out.
The base was primed then base painted with a few colours. Later I'll seal it with some gloss so the paint won't leach through the snow.











An experiment with some camo netting... Aka hair net that I found in a parking lot.







Next I need to add some rust and stains to the truck, add some pigments to it.
Then I'll start back on the diorama.

Almost ready for the snow now.

I gloss coated and then hit the house with some dark dirt.
The bricks got a coat of concrete for the mortar. That didn't work out as well as I had hoped. I didn't texture the bricks enough with the Mr. Surfacer so the concrete didn't define the bricks well.
Poo.
Well... next time.




Washes off...



I wanted it nice and dirty on the inside, both from the explosion as well as from use of the wood stove.
Which I though could use a few logs.
I've seen an SUV completely destroyed along with the total ruin of everyone inside it and all that remained was a fully intact baby seat with a two year old little girl in it,... unharmed.
So, I figure that it's just as likely that the house is wrecked but the logs remain.
I've also added some broken glass to the windows.





Next I hit everything but the glass in the windows with some dullcote.





Then I added all of the extra bricks and debris to the ruins.



Then I stuck the house on for a fit test, to make sure that I didn't glue anything where it wasn't supposed to be.



Next I'll add the broken glass shards to the areas under the windows and start adding the grass and vegetation to the grounds.
After that I'll add the snow and dirt.

I love the whole diorama but the debris pile caught my eye, a perfect mix of brick rubble, splintered wood and dust makes it look very real.

Thanks fellas, you're way too kind though.
There are a bunch of booboos in the build, I can see them plain as day. I'm not fussed by it because they don't matter to me.
All of the bricks, windows, and tiles are about 3/4 overscale, and the stove is about 1/4 overscale.
In the end you won't really notice it that much as a lot of it will be covered by vehicles or snow.
It's more that the detail it there to suggest to the eye and your brain believes it.
It's a trick they teach ya in art school.

This morning I started in on the groundwork. Some yellowed static grass and a few winter grassy tufts to start.
Then a few leafless shrubs. I'll add the dead leaves once the glue has had time to set.



Next I'll colour the cobblestones and I'll think about a small tree in one of the corners.

I buy mine from a fella in the uk by the box.
The come in all sorts of colours and shapes for all seasons.
Self adhesive as well. Even have little flowers and rocks on them.

A mix of Ultimate concrete and light dirt for the cobblestones seemed to be the trick.
I also painted most of the stones themselves an assorted colour of green, grey and dark greys.

Then flat coated with testors Dullcote...

I also solved the tree issue...





Let it snow let it snow let is snow...
Prediction snow and Ice for the start. I may add thicker accumulation once this layer dries.








As I mentioned, I'll think about adding more layers while this layer dries, in the meantime, I'll start the weathering on the vehicles.

Seems that Mini-Art modelled every building that was in the town the NBA grew up in.

Getting near the end now.
I've finished adding all the snow that I think that I'll add to the diorama. In total I ended up with just three layers of the Precision Snow and Ice snow.
I still have to add some icicles to the roof yet as well as paint all of the ammunition once my order for paint arrives.

Tonight I got the Nashorn and the truck weathered and added to the dio, though the Nashorn can be removed so I can add the ammo once it's all painted.
All of the weathering was first done with a coat of Ultimate Earth to all of the lower hull and running gear. Then I mixed Ultimate Earth with some brown chalk pigments, static grass, Tamiya X20A and some thinned white glue and added it to the the hullsides and to some wheels with a brush in random places.
After that I mixed some Ultimate Earth, Light Dirt, and static grass together with some vallejo gloss and white glue and added it to the hullsides and wheels in random places.
I did the same to the truck only for the truck I added a little of the Precision Snow and Ice snow to the upper surfaces.




Then I added the vehicles and figures to the diorama.





Later tomorrow I'll add some pigments to the boots of the figures so they blend into the scene and I'll add some shards of broken glass to the areas under the windows.
Then I'll just have to wait until my paint arrives.

Just a quicky.

First time doing icicles.
Some stretched sprue and super glue. I may add some gloss paint to them to give them a bit of a lumpier shape, but they're an interesting start.
I know that there are many vids and how tos out there on icicles, but I wanted to see if I could get away with something simple. I didn't need much anyway.

Love the icicles great build coen, and that's why I like furilmodel tracks there realism, but there cost is hard sometimes. Again awesome.

Mike attention to detail is amazing mate!! You do all the little things right which makes a massive difference to the end result
Each time I see your dio completed I say it's your best work to date!! Well till the next one at least. This is amazing, I know you don't like to enter your work into a competition but this would certainly win 1st place Mike!! I mean I can you beat this work simple answer. You can't.
