Part one - The P51 Mustang 1/48 Tamiya

Post by TheTroyster »

I've been looking forward to this build. A: my success rate with building aircraft is well below average - most Go from my paint bench to the land-field - non-stop. B: I get to practice NMF - nice! C: Have a US Air Force museum here in Denver (Wings over the Rockies) which is full of NMF plains. And D: My son, in all the models I've built, seems to have a real interest in planes!

Oh yes and the last, best thing, is this is a Tamiya kit - which basically means I can dump it out on a flat surface and it should build itself in about two hours. No screw ups either - no amount of beer, distractions, or my mental health should impede this build.

Post by TheTroyster »

Quick primer on the interior parts before going to work this am, should be nice and dry by the time I get back.

Good Luck! What paint will you be using for the NMF?

Funny you should ask. I did a practice run on the NMF about two weeks ago and used Tamiya Aluminum. I think the plane's look turned out okay, but it looks more like aluminum and less like natural steel/Metal to me.

So I am heading over to the hobby store here in a couple of hours and see what I can find - I was thinking the Vallejo Air Natural Steel or Oily steel - or maybe they have some dynamic game color that will better suit my needs.

That was fast - that's Tamiya for you!

About three hours to built - painting the interior 3 hours.

You're really cruising there! Can't wait to see what you went with for the metal finish.
