Reasonably Priced KT Kit

Post by spock1701 »

So, I'm looking for a reasonably priced King Tiger kit, something under $50 US.

I know that Tamiya's kits are the cheapest, but I am hoping to expand into Dragon now that I have gotten started.
The other ones I am considering are the Dragon 6208, 6232, and 6303.
What KT kits might you suggest? (Preferably something without rubber-band tracks and plastic tow cables)

Oh, and I'm not a huge fan of Zimmerit. I just don't like the aesthetic.

Any help that you can give is much appreciated.
There is always time for modeling.

This is a Dragon kit re-pop by Zvezda !
from an older KT kit from Dragon...

keep that in mind while searching for other options !

Best of luck

if you're looking to replace the rubber bands, Tamiya do a separate single link aftermarket set if you don't want to stretch your budget too much. I put a set on a dragon KT and had zero issues. And they looked great too.
Its been tried and tested, it works! So don't blame the system if you're no good.

The Academy and Eduard King Tiger is a nice looking kit
And it is a late or final vehicle with the narrow tracks wich was build well after they stopped making zimmerit so it has that covered
And it isn't as expensive as a Dragon kit
Just keep on mind that Porche turret version all had zimmerit
Even the prototypes had it
The Henschels didn't all have it
From october '44 on they stopped the zimmerit aplication but the KT was build up to the end of March or early April of '45
The Zvezda kit is okay but the tracka require a lot of work

The zvezda and dragon are nearly the same except zvezda is a rebox with inferior plasic and awful tracks. One of the Dragon henschels without zim would be my choice. But some reboxes have ds.

I say check www.scalemates.com they have a wonderful search function. They also have links to affiliated shops and show stock and price or most kits.

As always happy modeling and keep sticking styrene.
