Really starting to come together now!

Been a couple of days so I had better get my finger out and move this build along as I am already tinkering with my first real kit I am gonna build since returning to "the fold".......

I left off hoping to sort the side curves out and adding paint to bits and bobs as we go....
Sides first then...

Ends are in and door spaces marked out ready...

Door side pieces added and the step floor plus a button I had been practicing my cocktail stick painting on.

Number two cut...

Button and step piece for this side too.....

Started to peg the floor and peel off the tapes where things are gonna get glued..

Dash pegs.... ( old matchsticks really ) ..... I am so tight I even amaze myself sometimes..

Rear wall too......

While I was jumping from job to job as you do to keep it moving and stop things getting boring I decided to brush some of the interior colour on the inside of the side windows...

...and the fans....

Big job time.....

Side windows are going on and getting some sanding and filling with milliput...

I have got to admit, they went on and looked better than I thought they would...Right while they dry I will continue with those side curves and have decided to "Hot glue gun" from the inside to give strength and secure the curved ends and fill out the step..

...and while the hot glue sets I paint the steering wheels chrome so they get some time to dry before I edge them in black and fit to the dash..

Then grey prime the curved bits now they dry....

Followed by a coat or two on the main sides...

That's all for this instalment guys..

Hoping you are all still watching and waiting for the end of this small scratch build competition entry. *about 41 days to go I think....*

I do not have a You Tube channel or know how to set one up to give you all quick video updates on this or any future builds so if anyone wants to PM me some how-to or getting started info it would be much appreciated.

What I have done is take some measurements and sketches etc... as rough plans which I will post at a later date for you all to "build your own" if the urge ever takes you.

..but again I will post them a bit later then you will see how in connection with this build log everything went together.

Thanks Guppy, I have even got my kids checking out recycled goods for dad's bits and bobs box...

I am such a tight ass its unbelievable...

The next update might start and bring it all together and I might start and see a light at the end of the tunnel...

It's really not hard Dude.
I see the work you're doing and I've done similar things myself a few times, but much much smaller and similar.

Okay been a little bit quiet on the posting front so I best bring you all up to speed.
In real time I have just glued it shut and I am busy sorting the bonnet area and thinking about filler and sanding etc...

Post wise I think its time to show you some cockpit building.

I have cut some styrene and placed them under the monitor type thing as buttons but don't need to be spraying everything silver again

Masking tape time....

... and all silvered up..

Marked up some holes for the pins on the fans as even after trimming they still have a stumpy tail out the back that I can use as a locating lug..

Fitted..

and I think some artists acrylics for some detail painting

Best get the micro lining permanent pens out for clocks detailing..

Steering wheels fitted..

Together to see how they look..

Side button areas are dry now so...

This little piece is the tail end hidden construction piece that will get skinned like the sides did..

Now on the original prop the front of the side curved pieces have a smaller nose shaped finned piece.
I cut these earlier so now its angled fin creation time..

Like so....

Times two please.....

Dashboard all looking good now..

Now is the time it starts to look something like ...

Adding the seats by drilling and using more dowels as location pins in the floor..

And so now lets have a couple of "Bits held together to get a rough idea" pictures..

So everything is pinned in place but still not glued until I am 100% happy to continue.
As I said earlier, today I glued it together...... about 10 days after these pictures of the rough fit were taken...
I have fiddled, adjusted and re-trimmed bits. Made a rough of the roof and front window all the time dry fitting and making further adjustments.

I hope this long post will keep you satisfied until I can grab some more time at the main computer to post up some more..
My daytime posts are usually done on my tablet or mobile phone.

Guppy I ain't sure on the white permanent microfine pens dude, try an art shop or stationers.
I painted my clocks by using the end of a dowel cut flat for the larger dials and cutting a cocktail stick to get a flat side for the smaller ones then just dipped them in the white and used them like a stamp set..

..and glad you like my little builds Ken. I just wish I was better.... Oh well practice will make perfect... either that or give me loads of not so great builds to stash all over the place..

Got the nose and tail end to finish, trim up the roof, finish the solar panel I built then nothing left but to ruin it all with a paint job.

Unfortunately painting is my downfall. And I probably won't weather it as that will kill it completely.
I may knock up a base we will see...

WOW... has it really been a week since my last post?.... Sorry guys been paying for my free £4 airfix kit by decorating the boys room for a day and a half and then spent nearly 3 more days home alone decorating the hall, stairs and landing while the Mrs and kids crashed at the mother in laws away from the wet paint and smell of the glosswork.

So we are still rebuilding the rooms and clearing out but today I managed to get to the main computer and more importantly my little models..

Back to Logan's motor then and I will start by giving you all some " bits together " pics so you can see where we at..

In the last photo you can see I have just placed the rear hood/bonnet on for the camera.
I am putting off the next few bits as I am not overly happy with what and how these will look and go...
Front windows time..

I have made a cardboard mock-up to test for sizing and looks..

Even labelled them so I didn't muddle them up...

I find that usually if a part worries me then a quick cardboard mock-up or template helps. Being cardboard I can re-cut, adjust or even scrap and start again..

I can see straight away that I will need to fill and work the front screens as my cutting is crap and the bonnet angle is gonna be real steep so milliput will be coming out I think..
I have started to knock up the roof as I go and will cut and adjust it down as I work the windows in.

Quick styrene window frames cut out..

Roof insert....( you'll see )...

...and all pieces together...

cut out ready for the bottle glazing...

Here you go... and I am going to cheat and use masking tape as the internal window frames as I doubt I can cut those squares again from 0.25mm styrene...

Glue and clamp time...

Now back to that roof insert and what I am doing is making the roof a lid 1mm styrene top with a modellers card slightly smaller inside piece that will sit in the cockpit roof with a lip overlapping the outer walls.
Did that sound right? Oh like this you will get the picture guys...

All the chairs are now pinned and glued up..

Going to use the cheap grey primer again on a few bits..

...and the roof lid....

OKAY..... this is my problem part.... skinning the curved bonnet/hood..
I am going to first use a 0.25mm styrene sheet to form the curve and act as a headlight piece ( again you'll see guys )...
After that has set I am going to use a 0.50mm styrene piece cut to give the headlight inserts as a secondary skin, giving strength and meaning the whole nose shape will curve and look neater than trying to get it in one piece...
Skin layer number 1...

While that skin cures I will glue on those side curves....

So.... I think that will wrap it up for tonight as my PC is starting to get warm and will no doubt crash before I post this if I continue to type and input any more pictures...

We are slowly getting to look something like the real deal...
Any questions or any pointers you guys can give me with any part of my build will be welcomed.
One day soon I will have to think about the outside paint job..... That scares me.... I may let the kids spray it and risk them doing a better job than me..

...In fact, before I posted up last night I spent 2 hours going over the latest ISM Video from Lee, then a watch of your latest offering and all I can say is...WOW..

Dude get a move on with that NX01.. 4 weeks you'll have time to spare mate.
You may be a little crazy...

after working those window inserts and those Pin and sink marks on the pylons and narcelles but hey its all fun ....

...And I just gotta say you are a star Donating a compressor to the ISM competitions and to have it shipped from Canada...

Dude did you re-mortgage the mansion?

, as you all know I am actually a week or so in front with the build and all I can say is this week has driven me nuts...

I hate chrome spray.. fingerprints and blemishes have worn me down this week...

Anyways I will post up some pictures and try and catch up...got 3 weeks left guys.. and only a few hours left now on the WW2 group build so work those airbrushes...

Where was we? Oh yeah skinning a bonnet, but before that lets look at some detail adding and jump about from piece to piece as always while bits dry and to be honest its how the pictures are taken and posting any other way will miss parts of the build..... like this piece.....

eagle eyed members will have spotted this last week

so here it is..

Nothing special but its on the original so you need to see it on the build.

Notice I haven't cut the angle on the rear yet? But have marked it ready...

So we will work the tail end some and see how it looks..

These pictures really are rubbish, I'm sorry I take them all on my phone as it is always in my pocket, so to-hand as I bit and bob through the day grabbing 5 mins here, 10 mins there....

Mating up the angles trying to keep them identical... being "Cack-Handed" For Mr Coen..

I have to keep a check on myself because I really am useless at this hobby.

I really do jump from piece to piece like this so I want you to all take a guess what this will be??

Can you guess now? Still a lot of work to do to it, and I have adjusted it again this week... That's the beauty of scratch building.. and of course I am working from photos, screen grabs and grainy videos from the 70's, so it is all judged "by eye"..

I will leave you with that bit and drop back to "Skinning" the nose of this car..
This is the second skin that will cover the 0.25mm original under-skin I glued on. The purpose of skin 1 was to give a secure and semi-ridged surface to glue the intended bonnet onto, also creating the needed headlight recesses.

Skin 1 glued in position and allowed to dry...

Positioning and making sure it will fit..

Cleaned up ready.

Central markings made and a check to see how much filler is gonna be needed on the curve..

Front windscreen rough lines are drawn on too so I can plot the arc and look of the nose..

I better glue it on then?

You can see the headlights now and what I was double skinning for..

Now usually you guys who build models will sit and look at your little Decals and note if they are in good register or not?
I don't have that option, nor do I have any decal printer paper or know anyone who likes me enough to print them for me so...

CD sticky labels used to print on and cover recordable CDs with, an inkjet printer and some wide sellotape... not forgetting a sharp Stanley knife/ hobby knife and we ( using an image off the net ) produce our own...

I think the nose cone is dry now and ready to trim, sand and fill once glued in place?
Rear internal build photo so you guys can see how the curves and things all take shape..... note the styrene straws ....

More logo pics.. this is just the bonnet one, on the sides are more... I will include the logo picture in the build plans at the end of this project.

Shiny sellotape..

...and finally before I go, I glue the dashboard and bonnet in place and start on the sanding and filling and packing out curved pieces..

...again out of focus camera phone pictures.... Sorry guys...

So I will leave it there for now. Just enough to wet the appetite.... Or bore you to tears...

Coen sir... It has its faults trust me... I am so unhappy with it at the moment that I have put it to one side and started tinkering with my FIRST aeroplane since childhood...
Unfortunately I have chosen a stinker to come back with..

On a plus... It means I get to scratch build some bits to improve it..

I hope that along with the plans and measurement details I am gonna include on completion that anyone can ( using my detailed log ) build their own little car if they wanted.

And yes I probably would have still tried to work some decals even if some had been available.

3 weeks to go so I may have to get my finger out and post up some more updates per week.
I hope you all have a good modelling weekend guys... Me? I'm off to the east coast to visit family..... If you live in Lincolnshire, watch out I'm coming your way..

Okay I am back as I have worked out I have just over 2 weeks to finish off this build log and post a final reveal, and I know a couple of you are waiting patiently to see how it ends up...
I have impressed myself so far, but I can see something you have to wait for... LOL...

So I think we got about 4 or 5 posts left on this, that's 1 post every 3-4 days...
Where was we?
So did you guess what this piece was?

Lots to show you with this yet so I will crack on.....
Scale reference... I have worked out it being about or between 1/26 scale to 1/28 . About 11mm to the foot. A figure would need to be 66mm at 6 feet tall.

glued together and starting to work the tail end and the bonnet/hood detail and windscreen/shield bits..

Finished interior not much left to do now...

So I will start on the rear end..

First bit of building up started..

The gap at the nose that I gotta fill.

One of the lights isn't square now I have curved it but its close enough..

Other side for filler..

So now the first rear piece of build up has dried I proceed with the top skin.

Top rear piece gets the finished skin ..

Needs filler and sanding..

Trimmed the rear boot/trunk part with fans and panel detailing to fit flush with the tail end pieces.

Scale comparison picture again.

Taking it to fit the tail fans and access hatch..

...and Ta Dah....

That's it for now folks.

Next time we will finish the front windscreen/shield and work on that solar panel for the roof..

Thanks Guys glad you like it.

I personally love it, but at the same time its giving me nightmares being a sprayed chrome finish.
Every time I touch it I have to wipe it to remove greasy fingerprints etc...

Apart from that I think on the final week you guys will love the finished build..

A few finishing touches and extras, oh and of course your very own hand drawn build plans with measurements and logo sheet.

You know, I went to my LHS the other day to get some sheet styrene and they didn't have any. The owner said that this dude in Mansfield used it all up.
So I grabbed all the Mr. Surfacer that I could just in case that was next on your list, and I love Mr. Surfacer.

...and yeah Guppy she is a good old size. Biggest thing I have built, and I am enjoying the build, impressing myself and very pleased with the response from the forum members as well.

Glad I took part in the SiG build and hoping I have given something back in the process.
Encouraging others to ditch the kit and have a go at building something that is unique, a one off....

So how to impress Mr Coen?? Hmmmm... I think I am gonna have to work on some new tricks and ideas and maybe a First for me

...but that's in a week or so, back to the build and the part I was dreading..

The front windscreen / shield.

All taped up and glued, hoping it dries nice and stays put..

Well I give it a day, assess the filling and get the milliput out...

Not great but its on and filled and looks kinda okay..

Sanded down ..

TIME for PRIMER again.....

Masked up and getting ready for a coat..

SSSSSSSSSSSSSS...... Spray, spray.....

All Grey....

Right so leaving that to dry its back to the Solar panel, lots of square pattern effect on the real one, can i pull it off??
We'll give it a go...

Trimmed up and looking fine!

Now i have been watching a couple of episodes, and noted that above the driver and passenger is an overhead switch cluster / panel that has toggle switches that Logan flicks to power up the craft.
Lets try and make that bit then?
The panel has 2 areas that look like interior lights then toggle switches on the lipped face edge. I cannot make little toggle switches but can use styrene to simulate buttons as i did on the dash and sidewall areas.
The interior light indentations..

If its dry i could give it a top coat?
But that's next time guys as my old PC is getting warm again and risks crashing if i don't hurry up and upload my post!
